This summer marks 10 years of Thrive✨
Ten years ago, I never imagined my creative hobbies would become a small business. I didn’t ever think I’d be an entrepreneur, especially not in the realm of art.
After losing both my dad & older brother while I was still in high school, I struggled with depression, anxiety, and a very debilitating eating disorder. During one of the hardest seasons of my life, I gave up a lot of what I loved…but, I found art.
I wasn’t good let alone talented, but creating gave me something I desperately needed… A reason to want to wake up everyday, a reason to not give up on myself or my life.
What started as paintings, drawings, and handmade pieces slowly became custom orders, art shows, and eventually The Thrive shop.
Over the last decade, Thrive has grown in ways I never expected. It led to a storefront, supporting dozens of local artists, building an incredible community of makers & creatives, and teaching me more about business, creativity, and myself than I ever could have imagined.
But somewhere along the way, I lost the reason I started creating in the first place.
I became so focused on keeping shelves full with new items, saying yes to every project, and creating what I thought people wanted that I stopped creating what I loved.
Growing out of our space in the shop was very sad but exciting. I thought I was ready to start the next chapter & shop immediately. But closing the shop and moving everything to a new space gave me something I didn’t realize I needed: time & space to get out of my comfort zone.
Space to slow down. Space to become a mom again. Space to heal. Space to rediscover myself after a period of post partum depression. Space to think about the kind of artist and creator I actually want to be.
With that time and space I’ve made major life changes and am starting a new very exciting personal chapter as well. All of these changes were necessary for Thrive, and for myself.
I’ve been taking the time to focus on myself, my family, my work, & my mental health.
I’ve been a little less active online and have been spending time a little bit more mindfully before making this post.
Thrive isn’t rebranding and we’re not starting over.
Moving forward, you’ll see work that’s more intentional. More artistic. More thoughtful. More ME. I already have some events lined up that we will be attending this year.
& in the meantime I will be working on putting together a pop up or live event to get rid of some of our older inventory for next to nothing to make room for what’s next.
At 34, Im learning & understanding that success isn’t becoming everything for everyone. It’s creating work you’re proud of, building a life that feels authentic, and having the will power to keep trying & keep thriving.
I’ve learned a lot in the last 10 years & I still have learning & growing to do.
But I’m thankful to anyone & everyone who has supported Thrive over these last 10 years. Whether you’ve been here since the beginning or just found us recently, thank you for being part of this story.
Looking forward to keeping the story going, keep thriving 🧡✨
