Today, the country celebrates independence.

We celebrate it too. Just a little differently.

Freedom, for us, looks like a woman who walked into Phase 1 with nothing and walked out of Phase 3 with a job, an apartment, and a car she bought herself. A social security card in her hands for the first time. A bank account with her name on it.

That is the independence we are building here in Jacksonville. One woman at a time.

Most people do not know what Phase 1 of our program actually looks like. So let us tell you.

A woman arrives at Villages of Hope with no ID, no phone, sometimes no underwear. She has been surviving, not living, and her body and mind know the difference.

Phase 1 is not about productivity. It is not about proving anything. It is about rest.

Therapy. Medical care. AA and NA meetings. A bed that is hers. Meals that are consistent. Safety that does not come with conditions.
