Marketing Agency Owners doing over $50k+ a month. How many referred clients would it take to cover all your lead generation costs?

2 new clients? 3?

I’d bet, since referred clients save your acquisition costs, and normally need less selling because they're referred from someone they trust… (not to mention stay clients longer)

…You’d probably need less than 5 referred clients to cover ALL of your lead acquisition costs for the month.

Agencies doing $20k/m give away $6,900+ in processing fees.
$50k/m? That's $17,400.
Agencies doing $100k/m are throwing away at least $34,800 a year that could be going into their pockets.
Wanna keep that money in 2026?
Shoot me a DM and I'll show ya how giving your clients a transparent choice in how they pay will put thousands more in your pocket.

$5k used to be when I’d have clients send me wires.
Under that amount, I’d eat the fees. But $5k+?
I was giving away too much profit for basically no benefit.
Now, I don’t have to eat any fees.
No matter if I’m being sent $500, $1k, or $5k+
But I’ll come back to that.
Was the wire easy for clients?
….Schlepping to the bank, John Hancock forms, TRIPLE check the bank transfer info was right…
…And then wait a few hours to make sure the wire was received?
Probably not.
But that’s the way I operated.
“Drive and wire” worked.
It just creates friction that wasn’t necessary.
(And sometimes it took an extra couple days to get paid depending on when the client had time to go to the bank.)
Instead, now…
Agencies can send invoices or payment pages like usual…
But keep 100% of your money.
With no fees coming out of what you earned.
Plus, no trip to the bank for your client.
How?
This works through something called Dual Pricing.
What happens is…
You send an invoice (or link) that gives clients 2 options to pay.
Directly through their bank account (for the regular price of your service) or…
They can pay by credit card (and get their rewards points).
But the client pays for your service plus handles the credit card fees.
The options are what make this work.
Your agency doesn’t come off as nickel and diming the client because you give them the option to pay directly for no extra charge.
The client CHOOSES to pay the processing fees if they want to use their credit card/get their rewards points.
Whatever they choose?
You still get paid your full amount.
The funds go to your account - same as usual.
However…
Stripe and Authorize .net can’t do dual pricing.
(Neither can PayPal or Square.)
But I have a relationship with a processor who CAN set you up with Dual Pricing so you don’t have to eat processing fees.
Plus, they’ll get to know your business, so you don’t have to worry about out-of-the-blue money freezes like with Stripe.
Below is a mockup of what a Dual Pricing invoice can look like.
It’s the same as the invoice you normally send - just with 2 options to pay.
(Same thing works for payment pages too.)
If you’d like to the thousands and thousands of dollars you normally pay to Stripe or Authorize back in your pocket?
Comment DUAL below.
Or send me a DM.
We can talk about next steps.
SPOILER:
Next steps look like:
*Talking about your specific sitch (see if dual pricing is the right option for you - it’s not for everyone)
If it is?
*You’ll wanna have someone on your team gather docs (I’ll walk you through what’s needed)
*Submit your docs to set up your processing account
*I’ll hook you up with the invoicing software that’ll do dual pricing for ya (since you won’t be using Stripe or Authorize anymore)
*If you use QuickBooks, Freshbooks, Xero, etc.? I’ll set up the integration for ya so all these invoices go directly into your bookkeeping app.
*You don’t have to worry about Stripe freezing your money
*And likely thousands will go to your bottomline that you didn’t have before.
Hit me up in the DMs or drop DUAL in comments.

Who’d you rather get into bed with?…
Someone who says “YES!” to anyone and everyone?
Or someone who’s more selective...
…Takes a little work to win over…
…Get’s to know their partner…
…and communicates well and frequently?
Maybe I’m too judgey?
One of those seems like, long term, marriage material. While the other…
Not so much.
The same’s true for your payment processor.
Going with a processor who says yes to everyone seems alright at the start, but…
Often ends abruptly and with a lot of drama.
I’m not saying an ‘instant approval’ processor will leave you with an itch and a rash, but…
They might freeze your effing money!
(Without warning or explanation.)
It happens to agencies and marketers far too often.
Google “Stripe froze my account”.
You’ll see what I mean.
So stay safe out there…
When you’re jumping into bed with a payment processor?
It’s worth picking one who doesn’t instantly say yes.
…Get’s to know you and your business.
…And talks to you when the inevitable hiccup happens.
Instead of just shutting you down.
Now…
If you’re like me, you might be thinking...
“Who should I use if not an instant approver like Stripe?”
Which I get, but…
The answer is different for every business.
Depends what you sell, how you sell, how much you sell, and a bunch of other factors.
…Which sucks.
I wish I could just say “Use these guys. They’re great for everyone”.
But like finding any partner…
There isn’t a good-for-everyone.
If you’ve had your funds frozen in the past?
Or are concerned you might have them frozen in the future?
(You don’t have to do something wrong to get frozen, btw.)
If you wanna talk about a processor who’d be good for your biz…
…Wouldn’t screw you over…
…And maybe even be able to bring the processing fees you pay down to ZERO?
Comment ‘relationship’ below.
Or send me a DM.
There’s no obligation to use or do anything I mention.
And I have no interest in hard selling anyone.
You might be with the right processor (for you) already.
That’s also worth knowing (IMHO).

The Stripe machine calculates numbers not nuance.
Does Stripe think about my particular business?
Or how my biz model works compared to their other bajillion customers?
It’d be nice to say they do.
But reality’s harsh sometimes.
Stripe, PayPal, and Square just see an account number.
…In a digital ocean of other account numbers.
If that account’s making too much too quickly?
…Or maybe had a few sudden returns or chargebacks (even one time)?…
The machine sees risk.
Not the nuance of my business or time of year.
(Keep an eye on your account in January/February when customers can’t remember what that large digital charge was before Christmas.)
Stripe just see numbers.
And it’s not hard for those numbers to look too risky when they’re compared to thousands of tiny accounts that don’t have much going through them.
It’s easier for Stripe to follow the “Tall Poppy” rule.
The one that stands out gets cut.
Or has their funds frozen.
Because they don’t see (or want to see) the nuances or seasonality of your business.
But there are payment processors who do look at your business.
…And its nuances.
To actually understand what’s normal for you, that way…
You’re not getting 25%, 50%, or all of your money frozen, indefinitely, without warning.
These kind of processors?
…The ones that’ll treat you like a partner…
…instead of a number/liability…
…Need a few more docs to get you going compared to Stripe.
But if you’re willing to spend an hour gathering the paperwork (or having someone on your team do it?)
You won’t have to sweat every charge back or refund like you might get a ‘dear john’ letter from Stripe any moment.
On top of that - depending on how much you take in credit card payments - you can probably put tens of thousands a year in your pocket instead of Stripe’s by not needing to pay their fees anymore.
On top of that (on top of that) - I’ll personally be in your corner. I’ll get to know your business, you can reach out to me if you ever have a problem, I’ll connect you to my network, and be your inside guy in protecting your merchant account.
Send me a DM.
We can talk about your payment processing sitch and see you can reduce your risk and save yourself some money - or if you’re right where you should be.

My Evil Get Rich Quick Scheme...
Help grow my client's Agencies for FREE with my 15 years of Agora level copywriting and marketing experience.....Just for doing their credit card processing through me.
***They get my network (I know folks who can do just about anything you can think of - marketing wise).
***My copy experience (I've sold millions in info, SaaS, and high ticket offers).
***And they don't have to worry about unexpectedly getting their money frozen by Stripe (or their account closed out of the blue).
It costs my partners ZERO (my processing will actually put extra money INTO their pocket).
Plus, it puts me on their side of the table.
The more they make the more payments they'll need me to process.
Sound like a sitch you'd like to know more about?
Comment below or send me a DM and we can see if our peanut butter and jelly mix.

Upgrading your payment processor is often a "I'll do it later" until...
It's an "Oh sh*** I need a new one NOW!"
But it doesn't have to be a hair on fire situation.
Choice is yours:-)

“Pay the f* invoice!” is a hoodie I’ve seen kick ass agency owner Wayne Ledoux wearing on more than one occasion…

…And while he has no problems getting his clients to pay him…

After a chat with him last week I got to thinking about a fun(ny) way to incentivize clients to pay quicker.

The image below (that could be added to an invoice) was the result.

Maybe I’ve been reading too much Dungeon Crawl Carl, but…

It adds urgency in a light hearted way.

Plus...

There's a time frame where it becomes a diminishing return to keep following up with prospects who don't pay an invoice.

I don't know what that time is for you... 48 hours? 72? 7 days?

In most cases, if they don't pay in that time, they don't pay at all.

So why not put that time on your invoice?

It will likely get more people to pay on time.

Those who don't?

Chances are - weren't going to pay anyways.

The hard part will be having the brass balls to follow your own rule.

Once in a while someone will try to pay after the expiration.

You have to be willing to refund them and tell them they missed
the deadline.

Either they pay the higher amount or you can't work with them.

(If you don't, you just lost all trust.)

99 times out of 100 they'll gripe and leave... But with an understanding that you do what you say.

Which is a WIN for you in 2 ways.

1) It adds to your reputation of integrity.

2) If they don't pay their first invoice on time... What do you think is going to happen with the next (or bigger) invoices?

In your corner,
James

PS - The way you invoice can also save you 6-7 grand a year if your agency is doing $20k/m. (If you're doing more you can save tens of thousands a year.)

Shoot me a DM and I'll explain how it'd work for your agency.

12/04/2025

Agencies get their accounts banned and funds frozen because flat rate processors use these loop holes...

Agencies have more options than they think...

Stripe is a great company.

They're just not built for agencies.
