You don’t have to do things like everyone else to be successful. In fact, doing things like everyone else could be the biggest thing holding you back in your business.

When I first started my business, I heard so much advice about what it would take to become a successful designer.

And the more answers I found, the less confident I felt in the way I wanted to run my business or the version of success I envisioned for myself.

It feel like I had to change parts of myself, my dreams, and my business to be successful — because that’s “what successful people did”.

I was caught in this never ending cycle of comparing my business to other designers — and it was exhausting. And it almost made me quit on my business.

Because doing things like everyone else and forcing myself to fit the mold of what a “successful” designer looked like didn’t align with the way I worked best. It didn’t allow me to honor my energy or trust my creativity. It made it hard to show up fully in my business. And it left me feeling drained and unfulfilled.

You can’t build a successful business or a harmonious life if you’re feeling drained and unfulfilled all the time 🤷🏼‍♀️ no matter how closely you are following the clues for success.

Almost (9) months ago I made the decision to stop trying to do things like everyone else and pursue MY version of success as a designer. And it has been so freeing.

I feel more in alignment with myself, my life outside of my business, and my natural flow + creativity. I feel fulfilled and excited again. I’m happier and my business is growing. And although I still have big dreams and goals that I’m working toward everyday — I already feel successful. Because I’m carving my own path (and doing it in a way that feels aligned) like I always imagined.

If you’ve been feeling stuck in your business because you think you have to do things a certain way to be successful, you’re not alone 💙 but I promise you that there is not a one-and-only right way to do things. The only “right” way to do things — is to do them in the way that works for YOU. You’ve got this 💪

Raise your hand if you’re ready to feel inspired, recharge, and connect with other creatives 🙌

As designers, we juggle a lot! From running the systems in our business to actual design work for clients to figuring out all the life stuff that comes with being a human — it’s no wonder so many of us struggle with energy management, feelings of loneliness, or overwhelm from trying to do it all.

If that’s you, I see you and you’re not alone. So many of us are still figuring out how to make it all work in a way that feels good — but what if the answer is not actually “more work” but “more play”?

I strongly believe that one of the best things we can do for our businesses as creatives is to align our lives with play and connection. We started our businesses to find freedom — but then we find ourselves locked to rigid schedules and tight deadlines with no room to just sit by the pool, eat good food, and connect with our people.

And be honest… when is the last time you took a vacation? If your answer is “it’s been too long…” — this next part is especially for you.

I want to invite you to step away from normal life for a week of workshops, connection, and relaxation with amazing designers who are just like you. Meet new design friends IRL, get re-inspired in your business, and get your creative juices flowing again — all while gaining new perspectives on life and business in a beautiful place that allows you to disconnect from your to-do list.

If this sounds exciting— STAY TUNED! More details about location, workshops, dates, and pricing are coming soon ✨

I’m so curious — do we have anything in common?

Comment below if we do — I’d love to connect with you ✨

If you’ve been here for some time, you probably know some of these, but in case you’re new here:

Hi, I’m Kenzie!

I’m a branding + web designer for wellness brands, and I also offer white-label web development and design for other designers. I received my BFA in Graphic Design from Utah State University (with a minor in Yoga + Entrepreneurship studies).

Outside of my professional life, I’m a wife, mother, + wellness practitioner — I teach yoga and pilates (in fact, I just finished up a weekend long training — so fun).

I love traveling — it’s definitely what I love to do most in the world! Some of the most profound experiences (and decisions) of my life have happened while traveling — like deciding to start my business! I was in Bali on a 2 week vacation from my corporate design job when I finally made the decision to jump all in to starting my own business. It’s crazy to think that was over three years ago 🥲

I also love my outdoor hobbies (and living in Southern Utah — I really get to make the most of them). From climbing, skateboarding, pickle-ball, biking, jogging, camping, gardening — I love it all so much.

I’m goal oriented and driven, but that also means I can be hard on myself at times 🥴

I have a pretty sarcastic sense of humor — and although I’m introverted, I can talk to anyone about anything (I’m not shy — I just love my solitude. Anyone else that way?)

Oh — and probably the most important one of all — I love dogs. That just might account for a big portion of my personality tbh 🤪

Okay now it’s your turn! Do we have anything in common? Total opposites? Comment below and share a few commonly known OR surprising facts about you. I’d love to connect and learn more about you, too.

I used to think if I were to have any value as a designer, I had to do it all myself. 👀

Boy was I wrong, and I’m so glad I’ve had mentors and other designer friends who have helped me to learn how wrong I was!

I’m so happy I learned how to outsource things in my business and stay in my Genius Zone! 😁

And I’m so happy I decided to collaborate with other designers on website design projects because it has made me feel so much more fulfilled in my business.

I want to give this gift to you, learning to outsource the website design or website development part of your projects if it just isn’t your thing (but you feel like you have to do it because your client expects you to.)

Well guess what, they client doesn’t care how it gets done, they just want a beautiful end result that helps them achieve the transformation they’ve been seeking.✨

So what if we still got to that end result for them, but without the stress and drama on your part? What if you were able to offer that and also find space and time in your business?🌴

Pretty cool things happen when we lift each other up. To me, that’s what community is all about.

If you’re ready to outsource half your web design process and get back to what you do best, send me a DM for more info and availability! 💥

(I have 2 spots left for this month, 3 in September, and 2 in October!)👩🏻‍💻

I bet I can guess what you’re looking for in your design business🌿👀🌿

It’s no secret that running a brand and web design business is hard. There are a lot of moving parts. 😅

And sure, maybe you got into said business because you’re good at working with all of the moving parts, but dang. Day after day, it sure would be nice to have a little flexibility and a break every now and then right?

Or better yet, breaks worked into your business, where you’re still making money, your projects are still getting completed, but what? You’re out there resting? Chilling? Taking a few days or even a week off?

Let me let you in on a little resource that may be the answer you’ve been looking for. Ever heard of white label development? Maybe you have. But have you ever hired a designer to develop your web design projects? 🖥

Hiring out a whole phase of your process for your clients could just be the thing you’ve needed to get back to more time in your business, doing less tasks, and being able to take those quarterly vacations you’ve said you’ve been wanting to treat yourself to. 🌴

And let me tell you why hiring a designer to do the dev is better than that random developer you’ve been working with🤷🏻‍♀️
- A designer gets you. They know what the client will want and care most about because they have done it themselves.
- A designer sees and cares greatly about the little design elements and details.
- A designer understands how to set things up for your client to edit the website later on, so they don’t message you down the road to help.

So what have you been waiting for? Outsourcing your website development may be the thing you’ve been needing to get back to that spaciousness and ease you’ve been searching for in your business.

I have two more spots open for this month and a few for September but they are quickly filling up and I have a few proposals out. DM me if you want to chat about your upcoming website design project!👩🏻‍💻✨

So you want to work with a web designer but you have no clue what to do after that.🧐😅💥

Here are some tips and things I would tell you! ☺️🙌✨

While I myself am a website designer, I have booked other big services for someone to come in and help me and I always want to make the most of it! I wish I was told what to do before hand so I was prepared! Anyone else like this?😁

If I missed anything or you’re still confused, let me know! Know this can make all the difference in your experience. ✨

I’m booking up fast for Q3 and I have a few more spots for aligned clients for Brand and Website Intensives (a brand and website design in as little as 2 weeks! Omg!) DM me if you are looking to launch by the end of Q3, we may be able to make that happen🙌✨💥

What turns something like Instagram or Pinterest from a creativity drain to a creativity motivator?🥺

Here are 3 ways I get inspired by what I view on Instagram instead of going into the spiraling comparison mindset (which if I'm not careful can put me in a bad mood for days... anyone else?)

1- Remember that he goal isn't to fit in with everything you see posted on the daily. We're all different and have a style or perspective to share, and from a business standpoint, the goal is to stand out and be different from what's already being offered out there! So if you feel different, that's your superpower.

2- It's totally okay to add to the conversation of a discussion online, movement, style, or trend, just give credit where credit is due and make it clear to your followers that that's what you're doing. It will give more confidence in your voice and designs (if that's what you're posting) and it makes you step away from that shady energy of "is so-and-so going to notice that I was heavily inspired by their post or think I copied them?" It's okay to love something and add to the convo, just give that credit where it's due! Tag your friends and those that have positively influenced you, no follower will think less of you.

3- If you feel completely bogged down by seeing everyone else online doing their thing or posting their creations, it's time to take a break, cleanse, reset, and go do something completely unrelated that refuels your creativity and makes you get lost for hours. You'll come back refreshed with creative energy and a better perspective on what you see others share. (You likely won't play the comparison game in your head anymore.)

Anyone else have any more tips? The key is community and creating TOGETHER rather than competing. This also creates a safe space where you'll feel more inclined to share your work and show up because you want to share your work.👀

Anyone else struggle with this? I'd love to hear your insights!💫
