May 12, 2026 marks the 100 year anniversary of Air Mail coming to St. Joseph. A lot has been written of this 1926 event, and deservedly so. It was a monumental step in the development of aviation in St. Joseph during the 1920's, which continues today in the presence of Rosecrans Field and the Missouri Air National Guard 139th Airlift Wing.

An extensively researched article about the 1926 beginning of Air Mail in St. Joseph was published in the California Numismatist magazine by Donald Lannon. You can read it in its entirety here, beginning on p. 30:
