Yesterday, housing developers, business leaders, residents, and legislators gathered at the Minnesota State Capitol to celebrate an innovative, award-winning initiative that expands access to affordable housing across Minnesota. The event also highlighted strong support for extending the legislation that sustains this proven, high-demand program.
The State Housing Tax Credit (SHTC) and Contribution Fund is a powerful, proven community-driven tool to address our state’s housing challenges. Individuals and businesses across our state have contributed more than $42 million to support 107 housing projects in urban, suburban and rural communities statewide, helping projects move forward faster and creating real impact for Minnesotans.
The amazing speakers today spoke to the program’s strong bipartisan support, its widespread adoption across Minnesota communities, and how it has activated both individuals and businesses to invest in housing and housing infrastructure.
Legislators also shared how their proposals (HF3902/SF4044) will strengthen the program, improve its effectiveness, and address the upcoming sunset (2028) to ensure the SHTC continues connecting private investment with public good.
