Meet an Anosmic on ‘Anosmia Awareness Day’!
Truth is, most people don’t even know what Anosmia is…
Anosmia = No sense of Smell.
Just as blind people can’t see…
Deaf people can’t hear..
Anosmic people can’t smell!
(Which often affects their sense of taste as well)
Congenital Anosmia means someone was born with no sense of smell (compared to losing due to an accident or other cause)
And today, we have a live interview with an Anosmic!
Daniel, our Chief 'Puffeciency Guru', was born with Anosmia!
Check out his interview with him:
Interviewer: Hey Daniel, How are you?
Daniel: Very well thank you.
Interviewer: Tell us, when did you realize you were not able to smell?
Daniel: Actually, it wasn’t until I was 12 years old and my Mom noticed. When I was a kid, if someone asked if I could smell something, I’d just say ‘Yes’. I guess I just thought smell was pretty lame and not sure why people made a big deal about it. But then, when I was 12, my Mom noticed I never talked about or noticed smells.
Interviewer: Wow, that is wild! So you have never been able to smell?
Daniel: That is correct.
Interviewer: Do people find it weird that you can’t smell?
Daniel: I find it weird that people can smell! Right?! Like you just breathe in your nose and can sense things? That’s wild…
Interviewer: So, since you can’t smell, are all your other senses heightened?
Daniel: Haha, No.. Actually my taste is greatly diminished and without my glasses I am nearly blind.
Interviewer: Tell me more about how it affects your taste..
Daniel: Well, I can taste bitter, sweet, sour and salty, but not the difference between them. For instance, all Starburst are just sweet.
I can’t taste flavors like cinnamon or onions.
Interview: Ohh, wow. Interesting. So are their any foods you don’t like?
Daniel: Well, I base a lot on texture. So I don’t like tomatoes or mushrooms.
Interviewer: If you could smell 1 thing, what would it be?
Daniel: Well, my wife says it should be ‘a new born babies head’... Which makes me think smell is even weirder…
Interviewer: How does not having a sense of smell affect your ability to create ChatBots and AI Automations for local businesses?
Daniel: I would say it makes me better. I am the top of the game and I would credit that to my anosmia.
