Yesterday was 7 weeks since my back surgery. The BLT (bend, lift and twist) restrictions have been lifted and I started some basic stretching exercises. I even made it into the shop a few times now and it feels so good mentally. It’s still a long road ahead, but the misery of over a year in chronic pain stopped the moment I woke up in the recovery room. I want to thank everyone for checking in on me during this - it means a lot and I am truly blessed!!
Install is almost complete on our new Cobra thanks to This is a dream press for us and we can’t wait to get it spinning! Hope to be able to load a stack soon…
Cheers to a pain free 2024

At our shop, August usually means a ramp-up to the fall surge. But this year there was no ramp-up. No surge. No mountains of boxes, and instead of staying late we were leaving early.
My mind started spiraling.
Maybe it’s inflation.
Maybe the recession talk is real.
Maybe our marketing has failed.
Maybe everyone is going to f*cking Custom Ink.
Having work is never a sure thing.
There are no guarantees.
No promises.
Not Today.
Not tomorrow.
Not next week, or next month.
But holy smokes did that all change a few days ago. A switch got turned on and the boxes of shirts keep coming like a tidal wave of puppies licking our faces.
Cheers to everyone that placed orders this week. It means a lot to us.

We had 7 people out today. I was press assisting on the 14c and things were going great, then I ran the backs of the last job and I jacked 6 shirts. I was rushing to finish because it was an order that got missed and the customer was on the way. A tiny piece of tape got in the screen and part of the UB didn’t print. I had to back up and put the UB down again and all hell broke loose. F**k if it’s not always the last job of the day. Humbled.
Proud to be part of a team that got it done today.
I feel like Shake Shack.

What a week so far. New press install. Extra coffee. Forklifted 5 crates off a truck. The back wheels were coming off the ground, so 3 people had to sit on the back - super safe. Rearranged basically our entire shop. Spun dryer 2 ninety degrees, piped and exhausted it. Hated how it looked and reran the ducts. Located new spot for the 12color. Kept up with emails. Uncreated the new press and helped my man put the printheads on. Broke down the 8 color that sold and helped crate it up. Squeezed in a workout (mistake), inhaled a pot pie, mailed rent, installed airlines for the new press and took a 10 minute nap while my bae drove on a bank run. It’s 74 degrees out. My brain hurts. Dryers cooling. I’m going home.
Salmon filets and asparagus rice for din.

This year started slow, but man did it take off. March hit and we were balls to the wall setting records and had our best year ever. But holy smokes did we need a break, so we closed last Friday and I gave everyone a paid week off. I haven’t done s**t all week and it feels good. I tend to get caught up in all the action of the shop and let life pass me by too fast. Not this week though and not next year either. 2022 is going to be different.
Cheers to health.
Cheers to wax.
Cheers to metal halide.
Cheers to Mac and Cheese.
Cheers to finding stock to print.
Cheers to not running out of ink.
Cheers to Book Club.
Cheers to my team.
Cheers to everyone who ordered shirts and kept the presses spinning.
Cheers to all my print nerd buds.
Cheers to 2022.

When I look back at how all this started it seems like yesterday and so long ago at the same time. Back then I finally found this thing that I was looking for and that I needed to let out, so I took the leap: The naysayers, the long days that turn into nights, the friends I made and the friends I lost, learning how to be better at what I do and who I am, pennies in my pocket and dreams of something more. That stuff. That feeling. Those days ruled. Those days I wish I could relive and slow down.
Started listening to “I Am Mine” this morning and I don’t want it to end. Pushed play on my drive and was wiping tears away as I pulled into the shop. Maybe it’s the time of year. Maybe it’s where I am in life. Maybe it’s the disappointment I share with Eddie that I never got to know my dad. Or maybe it’s gratitude.
Whatever it is, I think this is the perfect last book and this time a definite listen, aaaand it’s free on Audible. Can’t wait for more on the way home and to hang with my Book Club buds later this month.
Sick 9 color spinning today that I tried to reduce to 8, but had to keep the purple. He was right, onions make a burger better.

Humility - freedom from pride or arrogance.
I’ve worked so hard trying to make this shop the best it can be, but got punched in the face yesterday with the reality of how much work still needs to be done. We’re printing more shirts than ever, but that’s not what matters to me. What matters more is how we work together as a team and I’m not proud of that right now. It’s my fault. I will lead better.

Saturday. 630am. No alarm. Circadian rhythm baby. Water. Double shot. I hate the humidity here. I bought some pumpkin spice Cheerios yesterday thinking it will make it feel cooler, but it’s not working. Ready for Fall. Stretch. Bench. Squats. Bear plank. Egg, spinach and cheese on brioche bun. A chill, weekend kind of drive to the shop. Shot the s**t with some screen printing buds before we got all sciency with some mesh tests for Fffffrank.com
Single stroke - because two is wrong.
Left side - 158 Thin thread
Right side - 156 Standard thread
All else is equal - angle, speed, pressure, ink, squeegee durometer, etc.
Shirts will be available for a touchy-feely at the GSF booth at future trade shows.
Burgers and Rosé. Cheers.

If I survive running this shop, I think my next job is going to be testing stuff. Today we put the beta 3140 LED up against our custom 3140 MH - I love this s**t.
