In Ohio, supporters of adult-use cannabis legalization are hoping to place a measure on the ballot in November of 2023. The Coalition to Regulate Ma*****na Like Alcohol has already collected 140,000 signatures and will likely have to collect 130,000 more to get the measure on the ballot. If approved, Ohio (with a population of nearly 12 million) will become a significant new market for the cannabis industry. The state currently has 55 medical dispensaries with 70 more expected to open this year.

The United States Postal Service reported that the volume of marketing mail increased for the second consecutive year in FY2022 (which ended Sept. 30). By contrast, first class and periodical mail declined for the 15th straight year. Marketers are clearly making direct mail a bigger part of their marketing plans.

Connecticut adult-use cannabis sales are set to launch on January 10, 2023. The state will start with nine licensed retailers with more expected to open later in the year.

As we start 2023, adult-use cannabis sales will be legal in New York, New Jersey, and all of the New England states except New Hampshire, creating a regional adult-use market of over 40 million people.

Hey cannabis retailers – Hope you’re ready for a big sales month! December cannabis sales are 10% higher than October and November, peaking in the second half of the month. The biggest sales days are expected to be December 23 and 31 with 50% higher sales than average daily December sales. Happy selling.

New York plans to allow its first 36 adult-use dispensaries to offer delivery service before opening their retail stores, in an effort to launch sales by the end of the year. This delivery-only model will require the retailers to have excellent websites to win new customers. New York plans to issue 114 more retail licenses in 2023, most of which are part of the state’s social equity program.
