I used to worship the sun like it was my job.

Seriously. Laying out, soaking in those rays, chasing the perfect tan. That was basically a hobby for me.

Pain from a burn? Temporary. A great tan? Worth it. Or so I thought.

Back in 2021, my partner Vanessa and I sailed up the east coast on our 38-foot sailboat. It was an absolute dream. But here's where I made my big mistake.

I hate sunscreen. Like, really hate it. The last thing I wanted was to start every gorgeous morning feeling like a sweaty grease bomb. So I skipped it. A lot.

Fast forward to now. My skin is telling the whole story. The sun damage that wasn't there before our trip? It showed up and brought friends. I genuinely joke that I left looking young and came back looking ten years older.

Not my best trade-off.

Here's what I learned the hard way. The sun doesn't care how much you love it. It will age you without even saying sorry.

So now I do things differently. I wear a UPF50 sun shirt every single time I'm going to be playing outside. UPF50 is the highest sun protection rating you can get in clothing.

No greasy sunscreen. No burning. No looking like I time-traveled a decade forward.

You know the Super Bowl?

That’s what Localtopia is for my small business here in St. Pete.

It happens Saturday. February 14th. Valentine’s Day.

And I’m pumped.

This event is what Wide Sky was BUILT for. Local vibes. Sharing my tshirts with silly jokes and puns that make St. Pete locals smile and laugh out loud.

And you’ve been with me through it all. Since 2015.

Remember year one? My credit card scanner didn’t work. I had to manually type in 100 credit card numbers. That was fun.

Year two it rained all day. You still showed up and bought a ton of shirts.

The COVID year was wild. No one could come inside the booth. You had to shout your orders across tables at me.

Three years ago, the wind kept blowing our mannequin torsos everywhere. They were flying around like drunk seagulls.

But here’s the thing that’s always been the same. You.

You show up every single year. You buy from Wide Sky. You tell your friends about us. You gift our stuff to family members.

You shower me with laughter and hugs.

You tell me how many Wide Sky shirts you own. (Some of you have a problem and I love it.)

You tell me we’re your first stop every year.

Thank you. Seriously. From the bottom of my heart.

I’ll see you Saturday at our usual corner. 1st Ave N and 3rd St N. Right in front of the FedEx store on the street.

I’ll be the one waiting for you with a huge smile.
