Glynn County Animal Services At-Risk List *If the shelter becomes full and space needs to be made, the dogs on the "at-risk list" will be the dogs who could lose their lives for space. This allows for additional time to network for the dogs on the "at-risk list". *
For the month of September, the dogs on the "at-risk list" are: Celeste, Prince, Judo, Sarge, Jam, Rocko, Kronk, Roland, Zyla, and Lady.
1. Celeste (Kennel Anxiety) Brought into the shelter after being found dumped at the Howard Coffin Dog Park on 6.2.26. The shelter environment has been tough for her to get acclimated to and is very stressed out in the kennel. She is roughly 3 yo, female (will be spayed). She is HW- and on preventative. Volunteers are working on testing Celeste with other dogs. She was tested with a puppy and did well. She also was tested with cats and with the right intro is believed she will do well with cats. Volunteers will be working to test her with another adult dog soon.
2. Prince (Kennel Anxiety/ Food Aggression)- Prince was brought into the shelter as a stray on 1.6.25 and has been at the shelter ever since. He is roughly 2 yo, neutered male, mixed breed. He has tested well with a friendly female dog with a slow intro. After being at the shelter for well over a year, he is starting to decline physically and mentally. Being in that environment for so long can be tough on any dog. He does have food aggression and will need to be fed separately and, in a kennel, away from other animals and people.
3. Judo (Severe Resource Guarding of treats & toys / Minor bite because of a toy)- He is a long-term resident and has been at the shelter for over a year (intake date 5.20.25). He came in with an injury to one of his ears and had to have most of his ear removed. Judo is roughly 2 yo, neutered, pit mix. At the shelter, it is common for dogs to become obsessed with things they can “control” for example resource guarding toys, food, and space. Judo has such an obsession with toys that he is not allowed to have them at the shelter. There was an incident where a volunteer had him in a play yard and noticed a toy in the yard, went to remove the toy from the yard and Judo went for the toy and ended up biting the volunteer. With this behavior, Judo would need to be in a home with no children. He would need a home with a strong handler that has experience with a dog like Judo and would be willing to feed separately. Judo is dog friendly! He loves to swim and be active. He would do best in an active home.
4. Sarge-(KENNEL ANXIETY)- Sarge’s story is heartbreaking. Brought into the shelter on 10.21.25 with a deeply embedded collar. He is an animal cruelty survivor and even after all he went though, just adores people. He has tested okay with some dogs, and not so well with others. If you have another dog a meet and greet is highly recommended! He enjoys going on walks with volunteers and stretching his legs in the play yards. This resilient spirited boy is just waiting for the right person to show him that kindness is real.
5. Jam- (NEGATIVE BEHAVIOR IN KENNEL)- Relatively new to the shelter, was brought into the shelter as a stray on 7.1.26. She was brought in with two other dogs Marmalade & Sugar (both who have been adopted). Jam is roughly 1 yo, female (will be spayed), hound mix. Because she came in with other dogs, it is safe to assume she will likely do fine with other dogs. She does seem to be the “boss” of the group, but this could be because she is very scared in the shelter. One volunteer has been working with her and has started being able to get her out of her kennel and walk a little on a leash. Slow and steady with this girl! She is SO CUTE and a great size. She just needs someone who has patience and is willing to spend time with her.
6. Rocko- - (NO CATS) Originally came into the shelter as a stray in May 2025 and was adopted in July 2025. He was surrendered back to the shelter in October. Though the owner knew at the time of the adoption, Rocko did not get along with cats, he was still adopted and put into a home with cats. Obviously, that did not go well. SO, NO CATS FOR ROCKO. Rocko did live with another dog, and they got along perfectly. During the time in the home, Rocko was being scolded and ran and hid under the bed, the owner then tried to pull him out from under the bed by his legs and was bitten in the process. It was not a severe bite, though because of this incident, Rocko does have a bite on his record and will have to have a behavioral waiver signed at the time of the adoption. Rocko would do best in a home with no small children and in a patient home. After all that his original owner finally came forward and reclaimed him, only for him to be brought back as a stray in late March 2026.
7. Kronk- (Very scared/Negative Behavior bc of Fear)- Brought into the shelter as a stray on 8.4.26. He was brought in with another dog, so it is safe to say he is likely dog friendly. He is so scared at the shelter and because he is growling, many people haven’t been able to work with him. Shelter staff member, Sarah, has been trying to spend more time with him to gain more insight and we will update if we learn any more info on him.
8. Roland- (Very shy and scared)- Brought into the shelter with his sister Mallory (who since went into a foster home and then was adopted and is THRIVING) as strays on 2.14.26. Roland has been very shy since intake, cowering in their kennels. Within 2 months of them being at the shelter, they were quarantined with a parasite called giardia. They were cleared for that parasite at the end of July. Roland has been taking walks with volunteers and enjoys stretching his legs in the play yard. He would benefit from a home with another dog who is friendly and confident.
9. Zyla (NEEDS TO BE ONLY PET/ Kennel anxiety) - Previously named Daisy her original intake was 7.28.25. She was adopted early October 25 and was surrendered back to the shelter at the end of October 25. She needs to be the only pet of the home, period. She does not want to share the attention with another pet. She loves people. 3 yo, spayed female.
10. Lady- (Long term resident/Would do best as only pet)- Lady is one of the longest residents of GCAS. Her intake date is 2.25.25. She’s had trouble in the past with keeping weight on in the shelter (which is normal for being in such a stressful environment). Lady is a low key, sweet dog that loves people and does great around kids. She has tested okay with some dogs (older, mellow, co-existing type dogs) but has not tested well with others. It would be best to find her a home where she is the only pet, but if you have another dog, a meet and greet is HIGHLY recommended to make sure it is a good fit.
You can find information on each of these dogs in the photo captions. Please feel free to ask any questions, though we may have to refer to shelter staff members at the shelter to get the answer. I will also have volunteers put additional photos, videos, and remarks under each photo to give more insight on the dog.
Remember, when this kind of euthanasia happens, it is about space. So, while the dogs listed above are the dogs at risk of losing their lives, every kennel space matters, so if one of these dogs is not a good fit for your family, there are many others at the shelter that may be your perfect match! So, if you are in the market for a new fur-baby, go to the shelter and meet all the wonderful dogs!
