Three things nobody tells you about recovering from surgery.

One - your mind heals on a completely different timeline than your body.

Two - the people who show up on day thirty matter more than the ones who show up on day one.

Three - stillness isn’t weakness. It’s where the real rebuilding happens.

Six surgeries over seven years. I know this territory.

The hardest part isn’t the pain. It’s trusting the process when you can’t see the progress yet.

Allow your mind and body time to catch up to each other.

It’s a game changer. You got this.

“If you don’t have soul infused into your venture, you will always be a product but never a brand.”
- Fabian Geyrhalter

That quote was literally on the wall behind him.

Last week I got on a call with Fabian and we talked positioning. He reviewed Poahtree. We laughed. He asked real questions and gave real answers.

I walked in with a problem I couldn’t fully articulate. I walked out with clarity and a direction I’m already moving in.

This is what a real conversation does. Not a transaction. Not a pitch. Just two people who care about the same thing, talking honestly.

Grateful for this one. FINIEN – Brand Clarity

Most small business owners don’t have a branding problem.

They have a clarity problem.

A local business owner came to me recently and said they needed a new logo. After five minutes of conversation it was obvious the logo wasn’t the issue. Nobody in the room could explain what made them different.

Think about a river.

When water spreads in every direction it loses power. When it flows through a narrow channel it gains momentum.

Brands work exactly the same way.

The businesses that grow know precisely who they’re for and why they matter. Before you spend money on a logo, ask yourself three questions.

Who are we for?

Why should someone choose us?

What do we want to be known for?

If those answers aren’t clear, no amount of design will fix it.

Branding isn’t about looking different. It’s about being understood.

Your brand colors aren’t decoration. They’re a decision.

A client came to me frustrated. Their brand wasn’t gaining traction. When we looked closer, they’d changed their colors three times in the previous year.

Not because the business changed. Not because the customer changed. They were just tired of looking at the same thing.

Every time you change your colors, you reset the clock. Your audience never gets a chance to recognize you.

Association builds recognition. Recognition builds trust. Trust builds business.

Pick colors that reflect who you actually are - not what’s trending. Then stick with them.

Consistency isn’t boring. It’s exactly how brands become recognizable.

Yesterday on my Elite coaching call, Dan said one line that stayed with me.

“Sunlight sanitizes.”

If you’re under a million, stop hiding. Stop perfecting. Stop waiting until it’s ready. The work is to learn and build your audience, spread awareness, and create space for conversations. None of that happens in the dark.

Rumi said the wound is the place the light enters you.

I’ve been thinking about that for seven years.

Turns out the same thing is true for your brand. The parts you’re most afraid to show are usually the parts that connect the hardest. The mess. The pivot. The thing you haven’t figured out yet.

You don’t sanitize by cleaning it up.
You sanitize by bringing it into the light.

Hike 20. Waterdog Lakes Trail.

Building a business or a brand is a lot like hiking a mountain.

One step at a time. The way forward is almost always up. And the only move is patience.

Here’s the message. Whether you’re three quarters of the way to the top, or just getting started on your journey, every step matters.

Take your time. Keep moving forward. You’ll get there.

Cold plunge at the lake when we made it. Worth every step.

Three books. One author. All sent without me asking.

How to Launch a Brand. Bigger Than This. The Brand Therapy Book 2.

I already owned The OG Brand Therapy Book.

Fabian Geyrhalter didn’t have to do this. He did it anyway.

If you’re building something and want to understand what branding actually is - not the fluff, not the jargon, the real thing - these books are it. Stick around. Chris Do called The Brand Therapy Book ”smart, snackable, branding bites” and that’s exactly right.

I’m going through them page by page and sharing what lands.

This is what happens when you show up consistently and put real work into the world. People notice.

Twenty years of drinking killed my dreams. Literally.

Not the waking kind.
The sleeping kind.
The vivid, visceral ones where your whole body shows up.
You wake up knowing it was really you in there.

I used to fly.
All the time.
To magical, foreign places.
The days that followed were filled with excitement and fascination.

Gone. For two decades I didn’t know what I was missing.

Three years without alcohol and they’re coming back.

This morning, hike number 10 with Meredith. We’re talking about two kinds of dreams. The ones so big they scare you when you’re awake. And the ones that finally return when you stop numbing yourself to sleep.

Here’s the biggie. The dreams don’t lie. Either kind.

Attention > Escape

If you’ve ever had a dream so big it scared you, or so real you woke up still feeling it, DM me the word dream. I’d love to talk.

People don’t buy your time.
They buy your standards.

As a solo operator I used to think growth meant more output, more availability, more yes.

It doesn’t.

It means raising the bar on what you accept, what you deliver, and what you walk away from.

Not design.
Not websites.
Standards.

That’s what I’m selling.

That’s the game.
