Three watercolors playing things.

The colored circles I did a couple weeks ago turned into a thing I named "Eye Balls." I noticed the paper behaved differently from the top to bottom (the way it took the paint).

The next two were done after a contemporary-classical percussion concert I attended at the Moab Music Festival. It was poly rhythmic and dipped in and out of complex time signatures. These two little ones were done on the opposite sides of one small piece of watercolor paper because I didn't think they would turn out at all. But I think this is a thing I might explore for a bit.
I named them 'Underwater Rhythm' and 'Interlude, with fly'. The fly is some ink blotch that just appeared.

Naming pieces is almost as fun as painting them.😊

I traveled around Northern Scotland this summer with Chris for three weeks. In the Isle of Skye, I picked up a bunch of sheep wool along a boggy trail out in the middle of nowhere. In the Isle of Lewis & Harris, I picked up some ancient looking sea shells along a coast where we stopped briefly.
Yesterday I made this — Scottish Sea Shell Urn.
I love these natural materials. Though they are small, they have a heft and presence that speaks of sea, time, land, and quiet.

The Process of Making: When I was little, it flowed always. When I got older, it got channeled into the service of supporting economic, creative, and cultural aspirations of others. It got morphed in putting food on my table and having a clear purpose. Then I morphed it into the non-tangible in service of psychospritual growth.
Now I want to go back to just making. Like doing watercolor for relaxation — invited by a sweet neighbor to come sit once a week, with others, and just paint.
With a lifelong identity as "artist", and decades of scrutinizing the finer details of design, there is a barrier to a free flow.
I embark upon a journey to discover anew — why just paint for no reason? What TRULY gives me joy and can simply making for the sake of it teach me something now?

I'm doing an experiment on June 14th at the NoKings rally at the University of Utah (See Salt Lake Indivisible).
I had a fantasy last April at the big protest about those thousands of people standing quiet for 5 minutes and imagining the world they want to see, while their hearts radiated with love.
Collective intention, when people's hearts and minds are synchronized and vibrating at the frequency that Love creates, is very powerful. There is more awareness of this phenomenon these days, along with more scientific inquiry into the nature of Consciousness.
My experiment is to gather as many people as hear the call, to attend this important rally and to do this visioning while in a state of love and connection with each other.
My hope is that this idea has already been thought about by many others, who are doing this very thing, and that it becomes a way of shifting our world. If everyone who already knows that conscious collective intention is powerful takes on the practice of visioning with others on a regular basis, something would shift.
Please consider joining me, either in person or in thought this June 14th, to be part of the Collective Consciousness Change Project. Share widely. Steal this idea and run with it in your own way. Every person counts!

Democracy is on my mind . . .

The Utah Legislature's recent response to court decisions is concerning. Utah faces a critical moment for judicial independence.

It is so, so important that we, the people, stand up against all the degradation of our shared landscape around Utah as we grow. It sounds trite, but our true wealth is in the intact beauty of the land we live on. We've disturbed it a lot already. Then it becomes normal. Ugliness is poverty.

On Saturday May 27, the Division of Air Quality (DAQ) published a notice in the newspaper announcing their intention to issue an Approval Order indicating that Granite Construction’s operational plan for the proposed I-80 South Quarry “meets the requirements of federal air quality regulations ...
