Anyone else: Spilled paint
Us: A metaphor for the Safe System Approach

This photo of spilled paint might look like an accident to some, but to Penna Powers and to our friends in traffic safety, there are no accidents!

When we deconstruct what happened, our post-incident report shows opportunities for a safer system:
🔸 Safer roads (or parking lots)
🔸 Safer speeds (consider the context when deciding how quickly to move a bucket of paint)
🔸 Safer vehicles (in this case, a stable tailgate with a level surface for placing a bucket of paint)
🔸 Safer road users (separated travel lanes for people moving different types of materials)
🔸 Emergency services (cleanup materials that can be dispatched quickly)

We’re traffic safety nerds and we own it! We’ve been engaging the public in traffic safety for more than 20 years. We see safety lessons in unexpected places, and we share safety messages in just the right places.

Please note: Jessie Irwin and our amazing P2 outreach team were not harmed in the spilling or cleanup of the paint!

We took over West Major Street for the ultimate pup showdown. We’re talking custom walk-out songs, questionable bios, and tricks that mostly went according to plan. These dogs understood the assignment. 💯

Penna Powers is celebrating Leadership Utah’s Class of 2026, especially our own Amee Walker Rock!

Leadership Utah is an exclusive experience through the Salt Lake Chamber. The class learns about opportunities and challenges facing our state. They expand their professional networks and become more engaged leaders.

Amee said: "Leadership Utah helped me learned so much about the people and places that make our state such an awesome place. The experience motivated me to find where I can personally make a positive impact and do it! And all the great professional and personal connections I made along the way were the icing on the cake. I loved it!"
