For this Good Skin Knowledge classroom shoot, we kept our footprint small and our cameras at a distance so students could stay focused on learning, asking questions, and engaging with the lesson.

Our job was not to take over the room. It was to watch, anticipate, and be ready when the right moment happened.

Sometimes, the best way to capture more is to take up less space.

Some stories ask for more than a camera and a microphone.

While working with to share the story of their coverage of the Kerrville floods, we were reminded that sensitive interviews require patience, empathy, and trust. In moments like these, the approach matters just as much as the questions being asked.

That meant slowing down and leading with understanding, making space for your subject to feel comfortable enough to open up, and asking questions that invited reflection rather than pressure. Above all, it meant remembering that behind every headline is a person, not just a story to be told.

These are the moments that remind us storytelling is about people first.

Today, weโ€™re saying goodbye to Nick on his last day with Key Ideas.

Over the past almost four years, weโ€™ve had the joy of watching him grow in so many ways. He started with us as a junior editor and became an incredible motion graphics artist, cinematographer, and editor whose work helped carry some of our biggest stories. From traveling to four different countries to capturing powerful footage just 20 miles from Ukraine, Nick stepped into every challenge with talent, courage, and care.

Nick is also a gifted country artist and award-winning musician, and weโ€™ve been lucky enough to hear that talent shine through in our work, too.
More than anything, weโ€™ll remember Nick as an incredible storyteller. He brought talent, creativity, care, and heart into every project, and our team is better because of it.

Weโ€™re deeply grateful for everything heโ€™s brought to Key Ideas. While weโ€™ll miss him a lot, weโ€™re even more excited to see whatโ€™s ahead for him. We know this is only the beginning of an amazing next chapter.

Thank you, Nick. Weโ€™re proud of you, and weโ€™ll be cheering you on! ๐Ÿ’™

Filming outside can make a spot feel more real, natural, and alive, but it also adds a lot more variables.

For this Firstmark Credit Union shoot, that meant working with changing sunlight, unpredictable sound, shifting weather, and all the little things you cannot fully control on location.

It also meant keeping our cast and crew in mind every step of the way, because safety and comfort matter just as much as getting the shot.

A big part of the job is adapting in real time so the final piece still feels smooth, intentional, and effortless!
