The new Google Algorithm update rolling out in May will likely impact your business...
Google doesn't usually provide very clear guidelines when they release algorithm updates. Even though millions of businesses are affected by their changes they shrug it off and say, "keep creating quality content and focus on user experience." In the SEO world, we know this is their way of saying, "Figure it out yourselves."
The May update is a rare break in this pattern. They released information and guidelines a year ago on what would be affected by this algorithm update to give businesses plenty of time to change.
Once the May update rolls out, your website visitor's "user experience" will have more of a direct impact on where your website will rank in Google's search results.
What does that mean exactly?
Google will begin measuring how well your website performs on 3 criteria they've called the "Core Web Vitals."
The Core Web Vitals will join a list of a few other page experience guidelines that Google has deemed most impactful for a website visitor's overall experience.
The 3 Core Web Vitals are:
-Largest Contentful Paint
-First Input Delay
-Cumulative Layout Shift
In laymen terms, the 3 Core Web Vitals will measure:
-How fast the bulk of your website loads. It needs to be 2.5 seconds or less.
-How long until a visitor can interact with your website. Supposed to be less than 100ms.
-Does your website jump around making it difficult to navigate while it's still loading?
Over the next few weeks, I'll be posting on how to test your website against the Core Web Vitals, as well as useful tips on improving your scores.
