Illustration for a book of poems by John Alcorn, 1968. I love this so much. The line work, the character (so George Harrison) and the peaceful easy feeling vibe. I want to live in that world. ✌🏼

I discovered the art of in 2005 while living in California’s glorious central coast and have been a fan ever since. After a visit there this weekend, I remembered this image that perfectly captures true love in the Golden State. I think I need this hanging in my home soon. ☀️

‘The human spirit is stronger than anything that can happen to it.’
- C.C. Scott

As my dear friend enters a four-month round of chemo & radiation, she reminds us all how strong the human spirit can be. We made these stickers and magnets to keep Cindy close in our hearts and to remind us of one of her classic mantras ‘All things in love’. ♥️ DM me if you would like some.

Inktober Day 17 prompt: ornament . . . .
This one goes out to my dear friend Camille who has been a great supporter of my art since the day I met her way back in the 80s. I drew this while chatting on the phone with her while sick in bed today.
Today’s prompt brought to mind to the classic hood ornament/mud flap girl from my youth. Thought I’d try and use that silhouette to create an entirely new ‘ornament’. This is what I came up with. Now... back to sleep. 🤒😴

Day 9 prompt: swing....
Trying to catch up after missing a couple days of drawing. The first thing the word ‘swing’ brought to mind was a magical day, many moons ago, spent with my son and his best friend on the beach in San Clemente. I unearthed these old photos for reference. Good times.

Day 8 prompt: frail....
This little plant was hidden in a bigger pot with a bunch of other plants that recently died. It was very frail, but, after giving it a new home in it’s own pot, I think it’s going to survive. ✨🌱✨ @ Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles

Day 7 prompt: enchanted ....
Yesterday I experienced my first creative block with this month-long drawing exercise. The word ‘enchanted’ seemed like it offered endless visual possibilities, but instead, it made my brain freeze up. Because I could never commit to an idea, to pass the time, I started drawing my cat Toby sitting on my desk. It is unfortunate that her adorable face transformed into a more possessed vibe, but, I am pleased that I finished another drawing. Such good practice. 🐱 @ Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles

Prompt: bait

My dad was a fly fisherman. So, when I saw that the next prompt was ‘bait’, the first thing I thought of was sitting at my dad’s desk tying flies for him before a fishing trip. I was so fascinated with the colorful options of threads and feathers. It was a detailed and intricate process and I loved it. There were no rules or limits at how bright or wild the flies could be. Of course, he would always tell me that he could caught his biggest fish with one of my flies. Sweet memory.

I got off my iPad for this illustration and pulled out my magical POSCA markers. So fun! Special thanks to my feline assistant, Toby, for the support on this one. @ Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles
