Great news for Imperial County! California refineries may soon be able to source more of their ethanol directly within the state, reducing both transportation costs and emissions. This project also brings further diversification of the region's alternative energy portfolio, local jobs and economic stimulus sorely needed in today's virus economy.
Today California Ethanol + Power is pleased to announce exciting progress with our plans in Imperial County. First, our project has a name: (drum roll) Sugar Valley Energy. This name encompasses and reflects the Valley’s agricultural heritage and the promise of the project’s primary feedstock - sugarcane!
Located in the planned Keystone Industrial Park, Sugar Valley Energy’s development and construction will directly invest $1.29 Billion into the economy, generating a total of $1.7 Billion in total economic activity, and impacting more than 15,000 jobs.
In addition to more than 9,400 construction jobs created, Sugar Valley Energy will generate 250 new full-time jobs and help sustain another 2,200 local jobs annually once operational.
Best of all, we’ve partnered with MasTec Power, an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) company that will oversee the 3-year $610 million local construction effort. MasTec is one of the nation’s foremost infrastructure developers and this partnership is an important step in bringing the project to reality.
