A fun project with some pretty magnificent subjects!

I had the pleasure of redesigning the Emerald Forest Bird Gardens website, giving it a much needed facelift and content boost. The primary goals were to provide an expanded educational resource for toucan aficionados and admirers, and to redesign the site, bringing it into current design standards and visitor expectations, while maintaining the original look and feel.

While the original website had some great content, it was unintuitive to navigate and lacked the depth of information this business can provide, considering the owner is one of the foremost authorities on toucan care and husbandry in the world. It was also lacking in beautiful representation of these stunning birds, and an organized structure that felt natural.

Some improvements included reorganization and addition of content, restructured and enhanced layout, lots of new and improved images, and attention to housekeeping details to improve user experience and site performance.

Exciting announcement! I’m happy to share with you that the official Love Period Campaign has been launched.

You may remember that I had made a heart design last fall, and created a little campaign for World Kindness Day. This is the same art that won an American Graphic Design Award a few months later in the "Designing For Good" category. At the time, I just wanted to spread some love and kindness in this ever-increasingly angry world. But in the back of my mind, I wanted to possibly expand the campaign into something bigger, and, well… here we are! It’s officially official.

This project really had legs of its own. I never was sure how far I was going to go with this. If you know me, you know I have a plethora of unfinished projects (pinatas?), but this one wouldn’t let me off the hook for some reason. And while my design choices were very deliberate, this campaign is not about the design. This one’s about the message.

Working on some brand guidelines... Who else loves typography? It's an art form in itself.

Often overlooked or misunderstood, choosing the right typeface for your brand is every bit as important as any other aspect of branding. Making sure that all elements of your brand are sending a cohesive message to your customers is key to creating a strong and trustworthy image.

Another fun project for Emerald Forest Bird Gardens.

This toucan care sheet had a lot of information that needed to be packed into a single bifold flyer. By keeping the graphics mostly large and simple, I avoided adding busy-ness to an already visually heavy layout. The goals here were maximum digestibility for the reader, and a visually engaging piece. Hmm... that gorgeous subject matter definitely makes my job easier!

I'm excited to announce that I've received a 2023 American Graphic Design Award from GD USA Magazine for my Love Period Campaign in the "Designing For Good" category.

What started as a campaign for World Kindness Day involving unsolicited declarations of niceness grew into a larger project geared towards encouraging people to spread love in a purposeful way. The design was inspired by a momentary doodle. It was simple and straightforward, just as I envision a real love for humanity to be. The primary design is black spray paint on a newspaper grey, meant to convey a sort of no-nonsense, guerilla approach to being kind. A sense that the nice things we say to each other are factual, and need to be said. It's not about the foofy stuff. Okay okay, I know, I threw pink into the mix. Long story. But note that it's a "business" shade of pink. 😄

Got me a cute little “helper”, who, despite the fact that she is always all up in my business, is not actually all that helpful. But hey, she’s cute.
