A 36th Anniversary tribute this month!
Horton Plaza, San Diego Commemorative Opening 25” x 38” poster in 1985, was designed by me as a limited edition serigraph, silk-screened with 23 hits of colors, a split fountain gradient “H” and “Diamond Coated” clear gloss overprinted spotlight.
It celebrates HORTON’s live performances, wandering minstrels, classical music, operatics and other festivities launching this spectacular opening of Horton Plaza on August 9, 1985, and signifying it as the first shopping piazza of its kind in the United States. Architect was Jon Jerde, notable for the design and planning of the Los Angeles 1984 Olympics. The Paladion Center then opened across the street. “… the 115,000-square-foot development are Cartier, Tiffany & Co., Alfred Dunhill, Mark Cross, Gucci, Gianni Versace and Salvatore Ferragamo. The design of the $32-million center, which is more than 50% leased, features marble and fine wood finishing and was inspired by the Italian Renaissance architect Palladio, center developer Walt Smyk said…
Smyk also developed the 177-unit Meridian luxury residential condominium tower one block west of the Paladion, a precursor of the surge in downtown condominium development. Open since 1985, Meridian’s condos are now 90% sold, Smyk said.” More info: https://lnkd.in/gVmjCNpA
