One of the primary criticisms levied against dispensationalism and the belief in a pretribulational rapture is its alledged relatively recent origin, attributed to the teachings of Darby (1800–1882). In an article published in the fall edition of Ariel Magazine, Lee Brainard demonstrates that Eusebius (ca. 265–340), a prominent scholar and bishop of Caesarea by the Sea, had advocated for the pretribulation rapture millennia before the time of Darby.
