Support your local illustrators.
Things are getting a little crazy out here.
I’ve had to make a lot of adjustments in my business because of AI. There’s more pressure to create faster, charge less, produce more, and somehow compete with something that can generate an image in seconds.
And for a while, I felt that pressure.
I tried to work faster. I questioned my prices. I people-pleased. I pushed myself way too hard trying to keep up.
But I’m not AI.
I’m not instant. I’m not cheap. And I’m no longer interested in running myself into the ground trying to be either.
I still sketch. I still illustrate. I still make choices, change my mind, obsess over details, and create things from scratch. There’s a whole human process behind the work, and I don’t want to lose the beauty of that. I believe it has its place and can help shorten some things, but not this.
So I’m especially grateful for people like Simon, who commissioned this piece as a gift for his friend and chose to hire an actual illustrator to make something personal.
Some people still value artists. There are still people who value the process. There are still people who want something made by a human.
And those are my people.
If you want AI, go have AI make it. 😂
If you want me, you’re getting me, my ideas, my hands, my experience, my boundaries, and the time it takes to make something I’m proud of.
