Google's testing of the removal of the &num=100 parameter isn't the problem. It's a symptom of a bigger issue.

The SEO industry is in a panic over Google removing the 100-results-per-page parameter. Third-party tools like Semrush and Ahrefs are scrambling as their rank tracking becomes unreliable. This pushes SEOs toward Google's own tools, which would be fine if Search Console was actually up to the task.

Regardless of Google's motivation for this change, it exposes how dependent we've become on third-party tools to fill gaps that Search Console should be addressing.

What would that look like? Real-time data, better keyword grouping, accurate impression data, historical data beyond 16 months, and API access that doesn't throttle at crucial moments. Give us the insights we need to do our jobs effectively.

SEOs will adapt as we always do, but Google has an opportunity here to create a truly powerful, first-party analytics platform that serves both their interests AND the SEO community.
