We are deeply concerned by actions that risk conferring legitimacy upon individuals accused of committing grave acts of violence against their own people.
A true democracy must uphold the principles of justice, accountability, and respect for human rights. Any engagement that appears to overlook serious allegations of violence against civilians undermines these fundamental values and sends a troubling message to those who continue to suffer from conflict and oppression.
History will remember those who stood firmly on the side of justice, human dignity, and democratic principles, as well as those who chose a different path.
We unequivocally condemn any action that undermines accountability for atrocities and view such actions as a betrayal of the universal values of humanity, justice, and human rights.
