To celebrate this , we have a tale of two valleys, each producing exceptional wines, but with different characteristics to suit your mood and preference. Alexander Valley and the Russian River Valley are both situated in Sonoma County, but thanks to their unique geography, each microclimate brings something a little different to the table.
If you’re in the mood for expressive fruit notes and luscious, velvety texture, search out wines from Alexander Valley. Its inland location means a wide diurnal range that allows for more expressive aromatics. Breezes from the Russian River cool things down just enough to maintain balanced acidity. ' Estate Clonal Selection Alexander Valley Chardonnay 2021 delivers the characteristics of the region with concentrated flavors of citrus blossom, apricot, nectarine, and white peach with undertones of Gala red apple accentuated by gentle oak notes. 2021 brought heightened acidity, which serves to elevate the aromatics beautifully.
If more zippiness is what you crave, look to the Russian River Valley. Its location 11 miles from the Pacific Ocean means cooler temperatures. Moreover, coastal fog is swept in through the Petaluma Wind Gap, chilling things down further. The result is zesty acidity, leaner mouthfeel, and tart fruit notes mixed in with riper flavors. The 2024 Russian River Valley Chardonnay made by Ashley Holland () of Adnna Wines shows the beautiful tension the region brings with mouthwatering acidity, bright citrus, fresh pear, and lifted elderflower notes on the nose. Layers of ripe nectarine and peach unfold on the palate, while accents of honeycomb and lemon curd add a touch of richness and complexity.
Why choose? Have both and toast the beautiful AVAs of California and the diversity they bring to the table.
Happy Chardonnay Day!
