Artificial Intelligence (AI) has exploded into our collective consciousness of late and promises to affect all of our lives in unprecedented and unexpected ways. The Academy of Art University School of Graphic Design invites you to join us as we examine the professional implications (both good and bad) of the various generative image and text-driven applications now available. A panel of industry experts, faculty and alumni will share work, discuss innovations, and explore the possibilities (and consequences) these developments represent for students, academia, the broader design community, and society at large.

This event is produced in partnership with AIGA San Francisco in conjunction with the chapter’s 40th anniversary. This free event will take place both in-person and virtual—but registration is required.

In-person attendees should arrive by 5pm, the Zoom link will open at 5:15

Join the San Francisco design community and catch a live pouring by acclaimed visual artist Craig Black.

In his talk, Craig Black tells the story of his career so far — spanning from professional football (soccer) player, independent typographic designer to visual artist, sharing how it has shaped him and what he has learned along the way.

Craig dives deep into how he got his business up and running with no financial safety net. He speaks the truth about money worries and facing fear; remaining resilient and focused in achieving his dream, even in the toughest of times.

From the power of self-initiated projects to burnout and everything in between — Craig shares personal anecdotes on the challenges he has faced, overcoming imposter syndrome and giving back to his local community in the hope of inspiring fellow creatives to find what makes them happy and go achieve it!

Craig realized that to create the life that he wanted to live, he had to take charge and do it on his own. This progress in Craig's career has made him understand the importance of sharing his journey and the responsibility to make an impact and inspire others.

Next Tuesday, May 17, the School of Graphic Design will be at the Cannery Building (2801 Leavenworth at the Fisherman’s Wharf) for our first in-person Spring Show in two years. Industry preview is 10am-5pm, general public from 5pm-8pm. The best student work from all departments will be on display! Be sure to bring your family and friends! Spring Show is open until July 15.
