In Memory of Mom
Today marks four years. Four years without you here physically, yet you remain all around me—in every moment, every day.
Each year this series becomes another chapter in my journey through grief, remembrance, and love. Over the past several years I have incorporated flowers into these tribute pieces. This year I chose lupins, flowers that symbolize imagination, resilience, and the ability to flourish through change. Their tall blooms are a reminder that beauty and hope can continue to grow, even after profound loss. In many ways, including them feels like I am bringing my mom flowers in a new and lasting way.
August 17, 2022, is a day I know will stay with me forever—the day my mom passed away. The years since have held moments of deep sorrow alongside moments of unexpected joy as I continue to navigate the ever-changing landscape of grief.
Throughout this time, hummingbirds have appeared again and again—in gardens, while w**e tasting, running errands, or during conversations when life feels especially heavy. Every sighting has become a quiet reminder of my mom's presence. Without thinking, I smile and say, "Hi Mom," grateful for the comfort these tiny visitors bring.
M.O.M. Hummingbird 9 continues this personal series by combining my original watercolor paintings with digital silhouette composition, weaving together memory, nature, and hope. It is a celebration of a love that has not ended, only changed.
