She was born on February 6, 1913, graduated from the aviation school of pilots in 1932. In February 1942, Major E. D. Bershanskaya was appointed commander of the 588th regiment of light night bombers. From May 1942 until the end of the Great Patriotic War - at the front, as part of the army. Strict and attentive, even in circulation, E. D. Bershanskaya enjoyed well-deserved prestige and respect among female pilots. Her courage and impeccable knowledge of flying served as a high example for her subordinates. She personally flew 28 sorties. Under her command, the regiment made 23,672 sorties, dropped more than 3,000 tons of bombs on the enemy.
