It was so fun teaming up with Jaime Lewis this past season. We approached her about adding visuals to her podcast so avid listeners could get a peek behind the scenes, but also recognized it as an opportunity for her to expand her reach and audience.

Which podcasts are you listening to? Do they also share BTS or film full episodes to appeal to a more visual audience?

Let us know what you think.

A few aerial perspectives of the Performing Arts Center of San Luis Obispo located on the Cal Poly campus. Footage was taken on April 23, 2022, during the film premiere of “Playing in Unison,” a documentary film by MJ Miller.

“Playing in Unison” began as the story of a small, arts-loving community on the California Central Coast determined to build a world-class performing arts center. “ As the Performing Arts Center San Luis Obispo prepared to celebrate the 25th anniversary of that accomplishment, a global pandemic shut down the PAC for over a year.”

The film can next be screened during the SLO Film Fest on Saturday April 30th at 5:15 at the Downtown Cinemas in San Luis Obispo, CA.

More to come from our event coverage.

Lesson Learned: Have the courage to strike up a conversation with a stranger. You may find that you have a lot in common, know the same people or both. That was my experience with introducing myself to Nathan Moya, the Head Roaster at Pyra Coffee Co. We share a passion for photography, travel, and learning about people - and it turns out we know some of the same folks in the San Luis Obispo Area. This impromptu 10 meeting resulted in this quick 30-second piece of Nathan at work.

ABOUT
Pyra Coffee Co is micro-roaster based in SLO. Since 2014 we’ve been part of the exciting transformation that has seen SLO become a mecca for coffee lovers. We're consistently pushing ourselves to learn and improve, and create roasts that are exceptional examples of balance, sweetness, acidity, and body. Cheers!

How is Christmas a few days away? Just two weeks ago we were out in the streets capturing all these moments from San Luis Obispo’s 45th Annual Christmas Parade. We wanted to take a moment to recognize not just the work that was put into it, but also what it meant to some of the people involved.

Downtown SLO CEO Bettina Swigger said, “Our cheeks hurt from grinning! What a joy to bring back a 45 year tradition to a new downtown environment. It was a special thrill to see the downtown businesses open and operating along the parade route with the parklets open and serving food and drinks!”

Events Manager Niesha Johnston said, “Having the community come together for the parade after a year of hiatus really showed the true spirit of the holidays; love, generosity, and goodness. And of course Downtown SLO threw in a little bit of fun! Downtown, the heart of San Luis Obispo, was bright and cheery that night and brings hope for the new year.”

We always appreciate the opportunity to work in our community and connect with people using our cameras.

Happy Holidays to you all! Enjoy the season with friends and family. Enjoy all your different traditions and share it with one another. Stay safe and we’ll see you next year, SLO!

So I did a thing last Friday...

This is the 3rd consecutive Holiday Parade that I’ve covered for the city of San Luis Obispo. I appreciate Downtown SLO for trusting that I’ll capture the energy of the community during the holidays.

The parade route has a lot of ground to cover. It’s a lot of work running up and down Monterey and Higuera Streets, but I get so much joy out of interacting with everyone.

From the announcers, the volunteers, the families, and all the parade participants - it’s just so satisfying seeing the streets of Downtown SLO lined with people and bright lights.

After last year being cancelled for public health reasons, it was extra special to see everyone out celebrating. Thank you all for allowing me to do what I do.

The only opportunities that pan out are ones that you invest in. And part of that is taking that first step and betting on yourself. This year has been about constantly learning about myself and pivoting. I’m a serial over thinker and something that I want to get away from. I’ve recognized that it has prevented me from jobs, meeting people, and learning new things.
I’m done with all that and I wanted to share a how responding to one IG story kickstarted a client relationship with business owners Nino and Cheryl Eng of KULT and Nite Creamery. It’s been great getting to know them as well as their Head Chef Steve Lucero and contribute to bringing their vision to life.
