I’ve been a little MIA over here lately since the corona craziness has taken over the world. But the truth is, I’ve been busier than ever!

I’m thankful for the opportunity to continue working with clients through these uncertain times. While big social gatherings, events, and normal everyday life things are cancelled, creativity never can be.

This pandemic has been devastating for so many jobs and businesses, but it’s also inspired businesses to be more creative than ever in how they show up and serve their customers.

I’ve got some exciting things in the works behind the scenes with clients and my own little business that I can’t wait to share.

I hope you’re continuing to stay happy and healthy! And if all else fails and social distancing boredom has set in, just grab a paint brush. You might be surprised what creative inspiration can come of it!

Meet Guinevere, the latest gal to join the Burlap Bovine herd! We have so much fun bringing these ladies to life in watercolor for our friend and client Malorie. Read her caption to get to know this fine bovine. We’ve gotta say, Malorie nailed the personality profile on this one!

You knew another Burley & Barley hand watercolor painted cow would be joining the BB herd soon, right?

When Kiah and I met up in SLO for our mastermind day in January, we dreamed up all sorts of additional ladies (and gents) to the Burlap Bovine herd!

The first of 2020 had to be Guinevere, the Graduate! She’s scholarly AF, and worked a few side gigs, plus applied for all those ag org scholarships to put herself through college. She got mostly As and Bs, with a few obligatory Cs for classes like o-chem and calculus: they start with Cs anyway, right? She majored in Ag Comm. but is curious about where her post-grad path will take her. Certainly down some cow trail destined for greatness! She’s contemplating going back for her Masters, but figures 16 years of homework is good enough. She designed her own Burlap Bovine cowhide grad cap topper, you know, because it went with the outfit she picked for under her gown the best. 💁🏻‍♀️ She’s happy to make her family so proud, but will probs knock a few back at her grad party for a job well done before she begins her next exciting chapter in life! And, you bet, she absolutely deserves it! •••

Guinevere will be available on all sorts of goodies soon! But we just couldn’t wait any longer to show her off! 🎓🐮

Growing up on a ranch, I always wondered if one day I’d come back home and be a rancher too. But the truth is that although the ranch is where my heart is, my skill set is somewhere else.

Thankfully I’ve come to realize that for ranching to work, it takes more than just boots on the ground caring for livestock. It takes people like me - communicators and creatives - people to effectively tell our stories, showcase our businesses, and build our brands (and not just the hot iron kind).

While my day to day might not be working cattle or fixing fence, I’m still able to continue my family’s ranching legacy in my own way. I’m marrying my passions for agriculture to my talents for people and art to create a path all my own in the beef community I was raised in.

And when our passions and our talents align, friends, that’s where the magic happens. And I’m so thankful for my clients all across the country that allow me to make that magic happen every single day.

Kentucky is more than just bourbon, Bluegrass, basketball, and horses. Did you know Kentucky is also home to more than 38,000 beef cattle farmers and is the 8th largest beef cattle state in the nation?!

This logo build was for the Highlands Beef Cattle Association representing a region of eastern Kentucky cattle farmers.

Thankful for the opportunity to continue working with Kentucky cattle producers, even all the way from California!

One of our favorite clients and friends was featured in COWGIRL Magazine! And guess what? That means that our art was featured there too!

We've been big fans of Malorie and her Burlap Bovine business from day one and we are so dang honored to be a part of her herd, bringing her happy heifers to life in watercolor! Beaming with pride for this gal and all the incredible things she's created, and so excited for you to see the magic that is still to come from this boss businesswoman!

Hey look, something besides a cow! Y’all know cattle have my heart, but there’s room to love all livestock around here.

This logo build was for Stacia Shepherd Realtor, a friend and local realtor here on the Central Coast. Stacia wanted her logo to capture her love of horses while lending itself to the rural properties she typically represents.

This was such a fun butterflied ribeye illustration for our friends over at Lowe’s Angus Beef! Steak goes great with a little thyme, so we added a couple of sprigs and placed them over some butcher paper for the finishing touches.

I had so much fun this week spending some time with my boss lady friend Malorie of Burlap Bovine! We danced, we hiked, we caffeinated, we brainstormed and did ALL THE THINGS. We decided that this Friday we wanted to share the love and celebrate the amazing women in our lives with a giveaway!

Want to know something funny? This is probably one of my favorite pieces. Ironically, the client decided to pass on the job. It just wasn’t the feel they were going for, and hey, that’s okay!

Art can feel SO personal, it’s kind of like pouring your heart and vision onto a page. So when someone doesn’t like it, or wants it to be redone over and over again, it’s hard not to feel the sting. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned being a creative entrepreneur, it’s first and foremost not to take it too personally.

We all have our own style and flavor, and let’s face it, everyone has different taste! If someone doesn’t like peaches, that doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with peaches, they just aren’t for THAT person. The good news? There are PLENTY of peach lovers out there.

If you’re a peach, be a peach. Find your peach loving people and don’t worry about the rest. Let your vibe attract the tribe that loves you for all the sweet ripeness that you are!

We hope everyone had a happy and healthy holiday season and an awesome start to the new year! We spent two weeks soaking up quality family time at the ranch in California and at the farm in Kentucky, catching up on some much needed rest and relaxation.

We’re excited about diving into the year ahead and continuing to serve our amazing clients all across the U.S. with a little wedding planning on the side.
