Our latest episode is out and we speak with Kira Willey, the Founder and CEO of Kira Willey Productions, about her approach to building mindfulness in kids and adults through key strategies of movement, music, and other unique ways of storytelling. Kira walks us through her evolution as a musician and yoga teacher, the inspiration for her work and music, and how she engages kids, teachers, and schools nationwide and beyond in creating environments of mindfulness. Kira also talks about how this work can be especially important for adults in business and workplace settings where building a sense of community and teamwork is critical to organizational success. Throughout today’s episode, you’ll hear a few of Kira’s songs to set the tone and give you a little taste of her diverse and powerful repertoire. With a voice and message that everyone can love, we are thrilled to host Kira on the podcast. Enjoy the episode — and the sweet tunes!

Green Heffa Farms isn't just cultivating herbs and teas; they're sowing seeds of change for a healthier, more sustainable future. Meet Ms. Clarenda Stanley M.Ed, the CEO, President, and Farmpreneur behind Green Heffa Farms near Liberty, North Carolina.

Farmer Cee owns and operates one of the very few black, women-owned farming operations in the country, and holds the distinction of being the first  — and currently only —  black-owned farm that is also a certified B Corp. Over the course of the next hour, we chat with Farmer Cee about her history and upbringing that led her to create the Green Heffa Brand, her medicinal teas/herbs and service offerings, and her business leadership mantra that shuns spiritual raggedness, resource hoarding, and harm to the planet in favor of ‘growing right.’

New LGC🎙episode drop!

Trust-Based Philanthropy: Centering equity, humility, and transparency in grantmaking.

In today’s episode, we speak with Shaady Salehi, Executive Director of the Trust-Based Philanthropy Project and Roxana Shirkhoda, former head of social impact at Zoom. We’ll discuss the core tenets of Trust-Based Philanthropy while delving into why traditional models of philanthropy are rooted in a historical context of exploitation and business-centered logic that doesn’t often serve the community organizations doing the work. They’ll talk about the importance of multi-year unrestricted funding, the importance of having corporate and tech partners taking up the Trust-Based Philanthropy mantle, and share about how they’re working to influence the entire sector towards an equitable, anti-racist, and restorative approach to giving. Also, a bit about breath, stretching and yoga — but definitely not the dying of hair! Enjoy.

As many who closely follow LOACOM may have heard, we have decided to take the rather drastic step of restructuring the company. This means that, after today, we’ll have let go of all staff, cut most overhead expenses, and paired down to just the bare necessities. It was a tough but necessary decision, agreed upon by our full team in a heartfelt all-team meeting weeks ago.

The restructure will allow LOACOM to become more selective as we open ourselves up to clearly defined, values-aligned projects, scaling our team from a vast network of expert friends/colleagues as necessary and reevaluating what our future holds (Our podcast, Let’s Get Changed, will continue at full speed — season 2 launched yesterday!)

Our journey has been one of constant evolution, shifts, and experimentation in pursuit of creating a better world with you, for all. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being part of our evolution. If you have any questions about this transition process — or are wondering about a possible project for LOACOM to consider, you can continue to contact us via our website or at [email protected].

Onwards and up.

Our Story

In 2012, best friends and business partners David Fortson and Eric Cardenas launched, LOACOM, a better world movement company that cultivates, connects, and activates ecosystems of changemakers to build vibrant communities and nurture a thriving planet. LOACOM offers storytelling, strategy, experience, and movement-building services to companies, organizations, institutions, and individuals acting as catalysts for good.

In 2013, LOACOM landed its first internationally relevant client, 1% for the Planet (of which LOACOM is a proud member). This nonprofit organization, founded by Patagonia, Inc.’s Yvon Chouinard, fit the exact profile of clients that LOACOM wanted to align itself with - those that cared about people and the planet, in addition to but not above profit. Things began to move.

Since those first few years, LOACOM has hired a small but amazing crew who, individually, were in the right place at the right time alongside building a client list we couldn’t be more proud of. Today, in our small office in Santa Barbara, CA, we are amazed by the partnerships we’ve grown, the impact our broader collective has made, and the fun we’ve had along the way.

Key to LOA’s success? Work hard, share good times, and strive to create a better world with every interaction.
