This is your reminder to not discount legacy media just yet because it might be exactly the spark that sets your campaign on fire, just like it did for Netflix US 🪧🔥

Here’s a full breakdown of how they fully leveraged their experiential OOH campaign of the “man in the billboard” for max impact both offline and online, leading to:
• actor interactions that made spectators part of the activation
• massive coverage from traditional media to influencers and everyday consumers
• Tie-ins to what everyone’s already talking about like AI, the housing market and going 3 days without WiFi
• reactive social content opportunities like the Netflix documentary trend

Did this viral campaign make it to your feed in the last week?

Is J.Crew’s series of artist brand collaborations a way to remedy the damage from last year’s AI art backlash?

The thought behind this video started with me just noticing several artist collaboration posts in their feed, which was a refreshing contrast to the increasing number of obvious AI-generated video and image ads from other recognizable brands.

But after a little digging, I realized that J.Crew was guilty of the same thing last year.

Do you think this is a genuine redemption arc for J.Crew?

And do you think brands like Grocery Outlet, Liquid Death and Dollar Shave Club will respond the same way to the online backlash?

Ah, the ol’ “social media intern” stereotype and the double-edged sword that comes with the assumption that good social content is attributed to the efforts of one young social media intern.

Costco didn't just announce their TikTok arrival.

They made every minute count to establish their presence on the new platform, add a new element to their brand story, and double down on what's always been true: everything they do centers on the customer experience.

Here’s a breakdown of 3 marketing moves that Costco got right that you can use for your next launch, whether that's a new product or service, a brand refresh, or your first move onto a new platform.

If this creative had slipped through and then got pulled with an explanation once people pushed back…

Fair enough.

But this post is still up with no response from Shoyoroll.

Meanwhile the women’s BJJ community is calling it out for misrepresentation, objectification through the male gaze, and its apparent disconnect from the motivations and needs of their female customer, a rapidly growing market segment for the sport as a whole.

Here are 4 marketing lessons this well-known jiu jitsu brand got wrong, and how to avoid alienating your loyal customers the same way.
