As a Gen X woman in business, I went to the school of hard work gets results. I remember at my first TV job in LA, I once clocked over 100 hours in a week because I tried to make myself irreplaceable, working three different positions (production coordinator, room producer, and creative producer) in the same week -- sometimes at the same time).
Blood, sweat, and tears were the name of the game. I gave it everything I had.
When I was an executive director working in TV syndication, and six months pregnant, my goal was to make them forget I was growing a life inside of me. (Nothing to see here, boys.)
I could do everything the guys were doing—and more. I would be available for my morning team at 7am, work all day, and then be approving promos up until 11pm for the night shift team.
I had to be unstoppable. Or they'd find someone who was.
And while I still carry some of that Gen X "watch me make it happen" attitude, I have learned a better way to work, one that includes flow and ease.
My clients now are absolute badass experts in their respective fields, and every one of them is committed to making an impact. But gone are the days of killing ourselves for the work. The work is impactful, and powerful, and so much fun.
Over the past several months, while working with an amazing client, I've actually begun to do things very differently. Through our work together, she's taught me more about how I want to show up in my business than I could have ever imagined.
She's taught me that it's possible to
💡 work smarter, with more flow
💡 make more money than we'd ever imagined
💡 have the time and energy for everything else life has to offer
