How to capture natural light in food photography 📸🔆
This shoot was done between 4–6PM using only natural light — no artificial setups, just smart timing and positioning.
Quick tips:
• Shoot during golden hour (late afternoon) for soft, warm tones and flattering shadows.
• Side lighting adds depth and highlights textures — great for dishes with surface detail.
• Backlighting works beautifully for drinks, steam, or anything with a glow (especially with translucent drinks.)
• Turn off overhead lights — mixed lighting can ruin the natural feel.
• Use a white bounce (like a foam board or wall) to soften harsh shadows if needed.
• Angle matters — utilize different angles, based on what you’re shooting. Make sure to capture those shadows to make your photos look more dynamic.
Lighting can elevate your content just as much as your camera can.
