💻✨ A Personal PSA from Lisa Hodo Media Your Dedicated Digital Marketing Specialist ✨💻
For over 15 years, I’ve poured my heart and soul into helping family-owned businesses like ours and other small businesses grow on social media platforms and Google. From crafting unique content to building brand trust, I’ve seen firsthand how creativity, consistency, and authenticity can transform a business into a community staple. 💕
But today, I need to address something that’s been weighing on my heart—content theft.
Please, NEVER copy someone’s content.
Whether it’s a caption, a photo, or a piece of written content, stealing someone else’s hard work is not only unethical—it can seriously hurt both their business and yours. Here’s why:
🚩 It Harms Trust.
Your audience is smarter than you think. When they see content that feels inauthentic or duplicated, they lose trust in your brand. Trust is EVERYTHING in today’s marketing landscape.
📉 It Hurts the Algorithm.
Social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Google are designed to reward originality. When you copy content, these algorithms pick up on the duplication, and BOTH accounts can suffer lower reach and engagement. Why? Because platforms want fresh, valuable content for their users, not recycled ideas.
👩⚖️ It’s a Legal Risk.
Content theft is intellectual property theft. Businesses and creators work hard to create original posts, images, and videos. Copying their work can lead to takedown notices—or even legal action. Is it really worth the risk?
💔 It’s Personal.
When someone copies content from me or the businesses I manage, it feels like they’re taking a piece of the passion, energy, and effort I’ve invested. It’s more than just words on a screen—it’s the heart and story behind the post.
Here’s What You Can Do Instead:
🌟 Get Inspired, But Be Original.
It’s okay to look at others for inspiration—but always put your unique spin on things. Share YOUR story, YOUR experiences, and YOUR values.
📚 Learn & Grow.
If you’re struggling to come up with fresh ideas, invest in resources to learn more about marketing strategies—or hire someone who can help.
🙌 Collaborate, Don’t Copy.
Reach out to the creators or businesses you admire. Chances are, they’d love to collaborate with you and build a genuine connection.
I’ve built my career on authenticity, creativity, and a deep respect for the hard work of small business owners. Let’s celebrate and support each other by keeping our content authentic and original.
If you ever need help coming up with unique content for your business, I’m here to help. Together, we can build something amazing—one original post at a time. ❤️
Let’s grow together.
