For three years, it was just Donald Carlson and a tape measure. Driving all over the South Florida, fitting guys one at a time, out of his box truck.

That's the Tweeds Custom Suits origin story, and he shared it recently on Stir. He started the thing in 2019 with no showroom, no team, and no plan B. Just show up in a town, fit a client, do it again the next day somewhere else. They're TEN+ locations now. Still family run.

What gets me is he didn't grow by cutting corners on his product or service. He kept the main thing the main thing by focusing on the one-on-one attention, and he refused to lose that as he got bigger. Most people trade that away the second they scale. Not Donald. He's the real deal 💯

There's a basketball book in our office. Marketing agency, no pro athletes on payroll, and Kobe's Mamba Mentality sits on the shelf where everyone will see it... or read it.

People assume it's there for motivation. It isn't. It's there because it's one of the best books on craft we've found, and it just happens to be about basketball.

Kobe barely talks about winning in it. Instead, he talks about the preparation nobody watched. Studying an opponent's footwork for hours to steal a half-second. Obsessing over details that never showed up in a highlight. The mentality was never a mood. It was a method, and the method was boring, repeatable, and relentless.

Don't sleep on the boring, repeatable, and relentless things that will hone your craft 💯

The Basketball Hall of Fame gives every inductee one job before the ceremony. Choose who presents you. It has to be someone already in the Hall, and the decision is yours alone.

What people do with that choice is the interesting part. They don't pick the biggest name available. They pick the person who was there for the work nobody saw. Iverson chose former coaches John Thompson & Larry Brown. This year, Amar'e Stoudemire picked the executive who drafted him, the coach who built the system, and the teammates who ran it with him.

I think about this a lot in business. When someone finally gets recognized, the tell is who they thank. Not the moment. The people who were in the room years earlier, when it was just work and nobody was watching.

If you got the call, who walks you in?

The jab is the least glamorous punch in boxing. No power, no highlight, no reaction from the crowd, and yet it decides almost everything. The jab controls distance. It sets up every other punch. Watch a great fighter close and the jab's doing the quiet work all night while everyone's waiting on the knockout.

Building a business is the same because what truly wins is boring and repeatable. The follow-up call nobody feels like making. The weekly check-in that seems too small to matter. None of it trends on social, but all of it compounds.

Founders want the haymaker. That one deal that changes everything. But the haymaker only lands because the jab set it up. The unglamorous reps are always what change everything.... at the right time.

Throw the jab. Then throw it again. And again and again 🥊

Anybody can start a team. marcuswalfrid started a club that could only exist in Sarasota, and that distinction is the whole thing.

On a recent episode of Stir we sat down with the founder of the SarasotaParadise. The easy version of this story is soccer ⚽️. The real version is positioning. A club is just a business with a logo until it means something to the place it plays in, and meaning is not something you announce. You build it, one local decision at a time, until the city sees itself in the crest.

That's the part founders underestimate. Community isn't a marketing layer you add at the end. It's the product. A team rooted in a place has something no amount of budget can buy from the outside, which is people who show up because it's theirs. Get that right and you don't have customers. You have a hometown.

We know something about betting on this city with no guarantee it bets back. Good conversation with someone doing exactly that.

Everyone assumes you've got to be in New York or LA to do work at this level. Our whole agency's built in a city where (initially) nobody knew the name on the door. Turns out being close to the community and the client beats being close to the industry.

Our work travels. The zip code's just where our desk sit. Sometimes 🛫

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter.

Dr. Dedrix Daka keeps a Dr. King quote up in his office: "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter."

"Life is a grind. Life is a fight. Nothing moves without consistent force. And the moment you stop speaking, things keep moving around you. You can't stop speaking."
