“Should I advertise on Pinterest?”
I had this conversation the other day with a friend who was launching her business.
Should you use Pinterest to market your business? Yes!
Should you pay to run ads on Pinterest? Probably not.
For those of us that only know Pinterest as a user, it’s hard to wrap our head around how Pinterest works. The pins you see in your feed that say “Promoted by…” are paid ads. For US accounts, these are mostly from large companies.
The majority of the pins you see in your feed are not paid! Businesses can create pins for FREE just like they can create a post on Instagram. The businesses creating pins make money by
☝🏼linking the pin directly to their offer or product
✌🏾earning ad income off the traffic to their blog or YouTube video
🤟🏽 creating brand awareness and building their email list so that they can nurture a positive relationship with the Pinterest user that showed interest in their content. Later, the business can present their offers to the lead after they have been able to establish authority and trust with them.
If you really want to run ads, you can eventually combine a Pinterest Marketing Strategy with a Facebook Ads Strategy to know that your paid marketing is being directed at individuals who have already showed interest in what you have to offer!
So my response to my friend who is just launching her business was to utilize Pinterest but to wait on ads. If she wants to use Pinterest Ads later on in her business as apart of her marketing strategy, great! But for now, I encouraged her to focus on setting up her Pinterest business account the right way and to market organically (aka for free) on the Platform so that Pinterest has time to figure out what her account is all about!
