It is funny how you can slowly drift away from something that was such a huge part of your life and brought you so much joy.
And then rationalize it all with excuses like I am too old for this s**t, I don’t have the time or it wasn’t that big a deal to me.
I totally did that with music. And not to sound like a whiny 16 year old emo kid, but music was my life. I don’t just mean in the “these lyrics just speak to my soul” way.
🎸I went to watch random bands almost every night, local or otherwise.
📸I photographed bands at shows and for press.
💿I designed CD art, flyers and merch.
🎟I ran the door, merch table and concessions.
🎪I helped run a whole damn venue with my friends.
🛌I gave bands a place to sleep when they were in town.
Essentially, I stopped just shy of actually being in a band myself. And then it just stopped and I would be lucky if I saw one band in a year.
Last night, I went to see Jimmy Eat World, a band I have been listening to since I was 16. The joy for what they do was so evident when they were on stage and it made me realize just how much I truly miss having a piece of that in my life.
So here is to doing more of what you love and telling your lame excuses to f**k off. @ Starland Ballroom
