The amount of scammers out there scamming small businesses has gotten out of hand. It's time to start calling them out and blasting their info so small businesses don't get scammed. Here's the first one... this scammer messaged my boyfriend's business page asking what he could do to build his website... he was told politely that it was handled (by me of course)... upon some research his website is full of pics from another web designers site that he's passing off as his own work...got pushy after the initial polite no thanks... after the first image of his message, first three pics are his website with the stolen images... last three are the legit website designers site showing he built the sites (yes I informed him his pics were stolen)

5 Important Tips for Hiring a Professional Graphic & Web Designer

1. Avoid Drag-and-Drop Builders – Stay away from “designers” who rely solely on Wix or Squarespace. These platforms limit functionality, performance, and scalability—meaning you’ll outgrow the site faster than you think. A professional designer should be able to build on WordPress, Shopify, or fully custom platforms.

2. Check Their Portfolio (Really Check It) – Don’t just skim screenshots—ask for live links to real websites they’ve designed. See how fast they load, whether they’re mobile-friendly, and if the design fits the client’s industry.

3. Ask for Referrals & Reviews – A strong designer should have happy clients willing to vouch for them. Look for testimonials, Google reviews, or direct referrals from business owners you trust.

4. Look Beyond Pretty Graphics – Great design isn’t just about “looking nice.” It’s about user experience, clear messaging, and making sure your site converts visitors into paying customers. Ask how the designer approaches SEO, branding, and calls to action.

5. Confirm Professionalism & Process – A pro will have contracts, timelines, and a clear process for revisions. If someone can’t explain how they’ll take you from concept to launch, it’s a red flag.

I'm Jen....I’ve been building websites and designing for over 20 years, and I'm tired of seeing small businesses get taken by so-called web designers who are either hacks and don't truly know what they're doing... or scammers who take the deposit and disappear...or amateurs in way over their heads (if you're a newbie, I'm happy to give tips to get to a respectable level). Educate yourself before hiring!

If your business doesn’t have a website—or worse, has one that looks outdated, loads slowly, or is hard to navigate—you’re losing customers every single day. People judge your credibility in seconds, and in a world where your competitors are just a click away, a poor first impression sends them straight into someone else’s inbox. A strong, professional website isn’t optional—it’s your 24/7 sales rep, brand ambassador, and trust-builder all in one. If yours isn’t bringing in leads, it’s costing you business.

Too many small business owners are getting scammed by “web designers” with fake profiles, stolen portfolio work, and prices that seem too good to be true. They take your money, deliver a broken site (or nothing at all), and vanish—leaving you to start over.

I’ve been a professional web designer and developer for over 20 years, and it frustrates me to see small businesses lose money to these scams.

How to Find a Reputable Web Designer:

Check their real portfolio — Ask for live links to sites they’ve built and verify the domains belong to real clients.

Look for consistent presence — A legitimate designer has a website, real contact info, and a track record you can verify.

Ask for references — Speak directly to past clients, not just read reviews.

Understand pricing — Quality websites require skill, time, and planning; extreme bargain pricing is a red flag.

Confirm ownership — Make sure you’ll own your domain, hosting, and all design files.

Marketing tip of the day:

A story... that's what most marketing/branding is lacking....a story.... people want to "be convinced", but with no story and just "sell sell sell" they are turned off, and this is the biggest mistake of most businesses. Steps to fix this:
1. Determine your ideal client/ customer... you can even use AI to help you build your ideal client/customer profile
2. Determine what that client/customer problem your service or product solves
3. Now you've got the basis for your story... throw it into AI...i.e. "Write copy for an ad targeting my ideal client/customer profile with 'xyz' problem and how my 'product/service' solves it, using my brand voice" (yes you need to train your AI in your brand voice!) .... you can use this for all copy, website copy, ad copy, social media Carousel copy, blog post copy, newsletter sequence copy.... and then you just keep building on your "story"....

Most small business websites don’t work—they’re outdated, slow, or just plain ineffective. At ProgrammerJen, I don’t just design pretty sites—I build marketing machines. With 20+ years of experience, I create custom websites that look great, rank high, and actually convert.

Your Website Isn’t Broken—It’s Just Not Working for You.

You’re a small business owner. You’ve poured your time, energy, and money into what you do best—but your website?

Let’s be honest.

It’s ugly, outdated, clunky, and buried on page 7 of Google. And worst of all—there’s no real strategy behind it.

No SEO.
No marketing plan.
No clear message.
No results.

It’s not just costing you traffic—it’s costing you trust, leads, and revenue.

Here’s the truth: A DIY site or quick builder template won’t cut it anymore. Your website is your storefront, your pitch, and your proof. And if it looks bad or doesn't function well, people will bounce before you even get a chance.

That’s where I come in.

I’m Jen—aka ProgrammerJen—and I specialize in turning ineffective, outdated, and yes—ugly—websites into powerful, strategic marketing machines.

✅ Website redesigns built with SEO and modern UX in mind
✅ A real marketing plan—done with you or for you
✅ Clear action steps so you’re never stuck wondering “what’s next?”

You deserve a site that looks as good as your work—and works as hard as you do.

Mention this ad and get 20% off your full redesign and marketing plan.

Let’s rebuild your website into the client-magnet it should be.
