What to celebrate on Bandcamp Friday? Why, in the words of NPR's Ann Powers, the "majestic queen" herself, Seattle's Robin Holcomb, whose fabulous new art-house/singer/songwriter CD "One Way Or Another Vol. 2" is worth buying today (100% goes to artist on BF: https://robinholcomb1.bandcamp.com/album/one-way-or-another-vol-2 ).

Powers summed it perfectly: "She’s a brilliant pianist, a deft and inventive composer and a poet gifted with extraordinary insight."

I am proud to be promoting such a great artist and such great art!

Today, the ethereal duo Paper Wings released "Listen to the World Spin," a spellbinding, evocative, and truly beautiful set of songs ruminating on solitude, loneliness, and loss. You might doubt my opinion, as Emily Mann or Wila Frank have hired me to say good things about it to radio stations. But the best critic I know (she happens to be my wife) says, "consistently haunting emotional terrain and f'ing extraordinary harmonies ... best record I've heard in ages." Buy it today on Bandcamp or Apple Music and they'll shoot to the top of the old-time charts! 🎻🪕🎸🎻🪕🎸

The best gift idea ever: Give that special someone a music lesson (or a year's worth of 'em). My recommendation is a piano lesson from Wayne Horvitz, who is smart, wise, funny, a brilliant pianist, and a helluva teacher. I can't say enough about how much I now cartwheel through life, knowing I play better today than I did yesterday, and that I, I can make beauty at the piano.

My instaphoto and name changed with my (sudden/surprise) decision to begin a small business promoting new music to radio stations around the world. I’d done it successfully for and , having developed a sizable and up to date database of radio contacts. Today, I let well over 600 deejays about Québécois fiddler Laura Risk’s new CD, Traverse. It’s excellent and available for pre-order on Bandcamp. That said, I haven’t quit my day job and for friends used to Instagram photos of melted snowpeople and deflated basketballs, those will continue (look for Nashville pix next week as we’re heading to Sami’s CD release at ). Wish me—and Laura—luck!
