Allow me to introduce myself π I'm Isabel Calkins, the founder and CEO here at Rumination. Storyteller by heart, I was 18 years old when I landed my first personal essay in Cosmopolitan. It was about using a tattoo to cope with my depression and anxiety. I've always been a sharer and wanted to help others feel less alone.
Since then, I have published over 400 editorial stories about mental health, beauty, lifestyle, and home, all while being a student at NYU and then later, a beauty marketer at L'OrΓ©al. You could say that I used work to avoid the bigger problems in my brain LOL.
When covid hit, I was working for Urban Decay when I realized that the old ways of marketing weren't working anymore for our consumers. It wasn't enough to just talk about how good your product was. As a young 24 yo consumer myself, I was only interested in brands with a story. I didn't want to spend money to support a business with values I didn't believe in. Like they say, vote with your wallet. In turn, I wanted to shop from brands I truly LOVED. After talking to friends, family, and just like, the internet, I realized that this mentality was far bigger than myself. There's a social revolution and brands need to catch up if they want to harness the spending power of the next generation. much?
As a storyteller and marketer, I want to harness the power of community, love, and activism to do more than just make money. I want to help make people's lives better. This is where Rumination comes in.
Thank you for being on this journey with me π link in bio to learn more.
