Ever notice how "no" from your regulatory team and "why won't you let me be creative" from marketing are usually just two people talking past each other?

AbbVie just gave that problem a job title. They brought someone with a marketing background into their regulatory function. A self-proclaimed regulatory marketing whisperer whose whole job is translation.

We see this constantly with health tech clients: fast moving marketing team, careful compliance team, nobody in between to bridge the two. That gap is where good ideas quietly die or get watered down into something forgettable.

You probably don't need a whisperer on payroll. You do need a shared brief, a pre-review sync, someone whose job is catching the gap before it hits legal.

Where's this costing your team the most time – kickoff, first draft, or final review?

Building a diagnostic brand requires a different kind of marketing strategy. Unlike products people use regularly, diagnostics are often needed at very specific moments in time. That means awareness and trust need to be in place before someone actually needs your product.

In episode 127 of A Brave New Podcast, Josh sits with Jaime LaMontagne, Chief Marketing Officer at Astrin Biosciences to explore what that looks like in practice.

From balancing scientific scientific credibility with empathy to reaching both patients and physicians, our conversation dives into how diagnostic brands can overcome one of their biggest challenges.

When you’re marketing a test designed to detect cancer, fear is an obvious part of the conversation. Leading with the possibility of a diagnosis can create the very behavior marketers are trying to overcome: avoidance. In our conversation, with Jaime LaMontagne, Chief Marketing Officer at Astrin Biosciences, there’s another story worth telling.

A test can provide clarity, reassurance, and sometimes, a negative result can be just as meaningful as a positive one.

That shift from fear of what you might find to confidence in knowing is an important consideration for diagnostic brands trying to move people from awareness to action.

Episode 127 of A Brave New Podcast explores this tension, along with the broader challenges of building trust in diagnostics on the latest episode of our podcast.

In healthcare, zero-click search isn’t an SEO problem, it’s a brand problem. And increasingly, it can be a patient-safety problem.

According to a recent Forbes article, when someone searches a healthcare question, they may never even make it to your website. Search engines and AI tools can now summarize information, answer questions, and shape perceptions before a patient ever encounters your brand directly.

That changes the role of healthcare marketing.

It’s no longer enough to ask: “Are we ranking?"

Healthcare organizations should also be asking:
• Are we being understood correctly?
• Are we showing up as a credible source?
• Is our brand clear enough to be recognized outside our own channels?

In a zero-click world, your website isn’t always the first impression. Your brand may be experienced though an AI answer or a search summary. That makes clarity, credibility, and differentiation important.

This conversation also dives into what it takes to evolve a legacy brand, challenge internal assumption, and build a clearer story that resonates with their audience.

If you’re thinking about how to make a healthcare brand more relevant, memorable, and meaningful, this episode is one to tune into.

More than often, brands jump to the solution before doing the research. The strongest brand decisions begin with asking these core questions:
• What do customers actually think?
• Where is the disconnect between perception and reality?
• What's changing in the market?
• Where is there an opportunity to stand out?

Research isn't about validating what you already believe. It's about uncovering what you don't know and using those insights to build a brand that matters.
