When my kids were young, FlyLady was the only thing that kept the house running.

Not because it was perfect, but because it was doable.
Tiny habits. Clear focus. One thing at a time.

I’ve carried that same mindset into business without even realizing it.
The same routines that kept my home steady can keep your business steady, too.

Gratitude gets a lot of attention this time of year—but inside a small business, it’s not a seasonal gesture. It’s a strategy.

It’s what keeps you grounded when things get busy.
It’s what helps you notice what’s working (and build more of it).
It’s what strengthens relationships and creates long-term trust.
It’s what helps you show up with clarity instead of chaos.

And today, I want to say this clearly:

This week at JI Design, I took a deep dive into our internal systems — testing tools, revisiting old favorites, and figuring out what actually helps us work smarter.

Here’s what I reviewed:

Todoist
Still one of the cleanest ways to capture tasks and ideas without distraction.

Toggl Track + Focus
Track has always been my gold standard for time tracking.
Focus adds visual planning on top of it — early-stage, but promising.

Streak
A CRM that lives inside Gmail. Seamless pipeline and communication management without switching tabs.

Asana
Solid, structured project management — perfect for workflows, dependencies, and timelines.

ClickUp
The all-in-one contender. Tasks, docs, dashboards, forms… it tries to do it all, and I’m exploring how it could fit into our process.

This isn’t about swapping tools just to swap tools.
It’s about making our systems smoother so we have more time and mental space for the creative work we’re here to do.

We pulled each of these palettes straight from her pumpkin photo shoot, turning a few fall moments into color stories that feel real, grounded, and just a little seasonal.

Throwback to one of our favorite projects — Back Bay Botanicals 🌿

We built this website a few years ago, but it still feels timeless.
Rooted in nature and tradition, this Sitka-based small business crafts small-batch herbal products using wild and organic botanicals from Southeast Alaska.

Our goal was to create a site that captures Back Bay Botanicals’ roots — grounded in nature, authentic, and true to who they are.

Project highlights:
