Trees kill in storms. When I lived in Edmonds WA, wind and trees were an ongoing danger. Utilities above ground, power often out, live wires on the ground, child and Mom killed in car when tree was knocked down by wind on top of the car. The community audited where trees were in danger of falling on power lines. And a number of trees cut down. It was sad but necessary to save lives. Communities need to monitor trees for stability. In this instance, the accident may have been a complete fluke. But with us living in a time when both wind a water can be deadly, we must monitor our trees. I am so sad for those killed and injured. ❤️🙏

A large oak tree limb fell on a group of kids attending summer camp, fatally injuring one young child, officials said.

The guy was angry. So decided to kill people. In an act of anti Islamic protest. A child was killed. Happened in a German Christmas Market.

The suspect Taleb al-Abdulmohsen, a 50-year-old doctor from Saudi Arabia, had expressed anti-Islam views and described himself as a Saudi dissident, an official said.

Another great poem for those for whom Christmas is not the best time of the year.

The festive season,
‘the most wonderful time of the year’,
but if you are missing a face at your table,
it can be the hardest time of all.

How to feel merry, how to feel bright,
when your world has lost its light?
How to carry on, continue the traditions,
when the person who made it all worthwhile is not there?

How to face the music, the dancing,
the cheering and the reflection of a year gone by,
when the pain is already suffocating on an ordinary day?

You just try.

It is all you can do my friend.

You try, very hard, to imagine,
what that person would tell you,
and if you listen really closely
you will hear it in their voice.

What would they want you to do?
Retreat?
Isolate?
Or take their favourite songs
and their funny stories
and their little festive habits
and share it with your loves?

In their honour.

Now that they cannot.

I think we can all agree,
it is what they would wish for you.
I think we can also agree,
that they would want you to feel as loved,
as you once did when they were here.

They would want you to feel their love still.

They are trying very hard to make you feel it.

It hasn’t gone away.

And you need that love now more than ever,
and everyone around you needs it too.

So, feel their love, say their name,
bring them back to your festive table,
even if it takes all of your courage and heart.

It is the only way.

I love this poem. I am always sharing information, concerns, warnings. Not because out of fear; but rather a passionate love of life and people and and undying faith that—with hope, effort, persistence, courage, and love for each other—we can triumph over any challenge.

hope is not always soft and lovely. she is not always cascading rivers and sunlit skies, dancing. hope knows there is work to be done. there are roads to be traveled. turns to be made. she is bare bones and deep waters. she is weary and weak. she is barely a glimmer. she shakes when she speaks. this is where hope lives. smothered in sweat. full of war. and on the verge of crumbling into the sea. yet there she is. quietly breathing.
