April 2015 marks one year that Stone Pond Designs has been officially operating on facebook, so I thought I would share my start up story with everyone. In December 2013, my husband and I purchased some property with the hopes of building our dream home. We felt like buying the property was something God put in our laps because we hadn’t really even been looking for land. I was told by a friend ab
out this property and it was everything we wanted: mountain views, a small stream, lots of trees and in the middle of nowhere with room for our kids to roam. House plans were bought and meetings were made with a builder, but we were devastated when the money for the loan did not work out. We were told we needed way more money than what we had. So, my husband started working overtime. I considered taking a second job, but didn’t know when I would do it because of my husband’s job schedule. That’s when I thought about my sewing machine. It had been sitting in the closet for 2 years because I couldn’t figure out how to work the silly thing! But I had a dream and determination and decided I was going to make that silly thing work for me! After my kids went to bed each night I would sit hunched over in the floor with my machine and practice (I eventually got some tables to put it on). Once I felt confident enough to monogram for others, Stone Pond Designs was launched. One embroidery machine led to another embroidery machine, monograms led to appliques, and all that led to an employee/friend that helps me stay on top of everyone’s orders. I have no idea who most of y’all 300 plus friends are, but I’m extremely thankful for your support. Thank you for not judging when you see how crazy my house looks, or half naked children running around, or that my Christmas lights stayed up way longer than they ever should have, or a puppy who has absolutely no manners whatsoever. We are still saving money to build that dream house and when the time is right the wait will be worth it. Love you all SEW much!
