A Farewell: Choosing Life When Faced With an Impossible Choice. After eight extraordinary years of amplifying voices, empowering nonprofits, and reshaping the landscape of nonprofit marketing, I am sharing that HEARD Strategy & Storytelling is closing its doors on March 31. This decision comes from a place of necessity, strength, and clarity. With my stage 4 male breast cancer diagnosis, the realization that I could either save HEARD or save myself became unavoidable—and I chose me. It is the hardest choice I've ever made, but it is the right one for this moment in my journey.
HEARD was born in 2017 with a dream to show the world that nonprofits—those fighting for beauty, equity, health, sustainability, education, and justice—deserve marketing that matches their incredible missions. Every email, social campaign, website, and PR partnership was grounded in our unwavering belief that nonprofit stories deserve to be told—and heard—with dignity, excellence, and respect.
Though HEARD's chapter is ending, its impact will continue to echo. Many of our trusted clients will be in excellent hands with my most dedicated lieutenant, Leah, as she launches her own agency, Liora Lane Marketing, alongside our current team of Abby and Matt. As for me, this isn’t the end of my professional journey—just a strategic pivot toward focusing on what matters most: treatment, healing, and meaningful work in either veterans affairs, social justice, or cancer research. I'll also be happily working with a couple of HEARD's PR-only clients as well. To our incredible team, past and present, thank you for your passion and partnership. To our clients, thank you for trusting us with your invaluable stories. To our community, thank you for believing in our mission. Together, we made a difference. Be bold. Be HEARD. Be well. https://www.heardstrategy.com/post/it-was-either-heard-or-me-i-chose-me
