Turn Two Communications

Turn Two Communications Communications strategy, content development and PR for nonprofits and socially-minded businesses. Turn Two Communications marks our second major collaboration.

Our first came as journalists, working side by side at the Erie Times-News, where we teamed up on a range of business, political and investigative stories. Ultimately, our paths diverged. Peter developed an expertise in nonprofits and foundations through his work at The Chronicle of Philanthropy and the Council on Foundations. Scott took the corporate route -- working in house at Fortune 500 compa

nies, insurance companies, and banks. Along the way, each of us gained experience and expertise in just about every aspect of strategic communications, content creation and PR. We also kept in touch, often sharing ideas for magazine pitches or talking through a particular communication challenge. As we started collaborating more, it struck us that although we were working in two different worlds, those worlds often aren't so different when it comes to telling a story, communicating effectively and working with the media. In fact, by learning from the perspectives gained in each world, we discovered ideas and approaches that were otherwise hard to find. So we decided to turn two. Like a great double play combo in baseball, we’re better together. We truly enjoy working together -- and we believe it leads to better outcomes for our clients.

As we honor Juneteenth, we reflect on freedom, resilience, and the continued work of building communities where Black history, leadership, and possibility are recognized, and celebrated.

This year, we’re especially inspired by the grand opening of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago’s historic Jackson Park — a new civic and cultural space rooted in storytelling, public service, and community connection.

While tickets for this weekend’s grand opening celebration are sold out, there are still ways to take part, including joining a scheduled watch party or visiting Jackson Park, where the Center will welcome visitors for generations to come.

The Turn Two Communications team will be in Chicago next week for our annual retreat, and we look forward to learning and reflecting on the Center’s role in honoring history while inspiring future leadership.

Ever wonder why some experts land the perfect media placement while others get left out of the story?

It rarely happens by accident. Journalists are moving faster than ever, and if you want them to use your commentary, you have to make it easy for them.

Our latest blog post breaks down the 3 keys to getting quoted in the media.

We audited 190 community foundations to see how ChatGPT, Gemini (Google), and Claude (Anthropic) describe them. The results? A failing grade. The average score was just 6.2/10, with many platforms serving up outdated or incomplete info.

As more donors and partners use AI as their primary research tool, foundations are missing critical opportunities to tell their stories.

The good news? There are 5 concrete steps you can take right now to improve your AI presence—starting with Wikipedia.
