A project I've been working on since July is out in the world!! At the .of.art, we have a wonderful program called the BRAVA Awards. These awards give $15K of unrestricted funding to deserving artists. As a part of that award, we film a mini-documentary on these artists for them to use and share! I had the honor of producing these videos and interviewing our four amazing winners.

In the busyness of producing all videos in a very short 2.5 months, I only got one picture, from our only remote shoot.

This project has been a wonderful secret for the past few months, and today is the official announcement day!! All four docushorts are out in the world. To our artists, Gabriel, Inge, Priscilla, and RYAN!, thank you for sharing your stories with us. What an honor to be in your homes and studios and learn about the amazing work you've created.

And of course, a huge thank you to Tony Hannawacker, our filmmaker for this project.

Go check them out and celebrate these four amazing artists!

Oof where do I start with this Meta One thing. 😫😫

Last week, Meta dropped a new subscription based model that limits users’ ability to put links in Facebook posts: Meta One. Meta has never restricted this feature, so this development kind of sucks. Especially for small business owners!

With this launch, they also launched links in Instagram captions, which we have ALL wanted for years. But, of course, there’s a catch. You have to be subscribed to use that new feature.

Facebook users will get 2 links a month in organic posts. You can subscribe to Meta One to gain access to more links, but the subscription tiers are INSANE. The cheapest level doesn’t get you more links, and the $40+ month tier only gets you 8 links and 2-4 IG links depending on the plan (Creator v Business). In order to get unlimited links, you have to pay $400+ month. YIKES.

When you go to post, Meta will track your links. If you go over your “limit,” Meta will block the post and prompt you to subscribe. Apparently, if you try to do any workarounds, you risk your content being suppressed.

This launch comes after Meta launched Instagram Plus in June, which doesn’t strip users of features, but adds upgrades, and is WAY cheaper.

It’s not surprising that Meta is moving towards a subscription based model, but it’s super disappointing and can add barriers to small businesses marketing on Meta platforms.

If you’re looking for a workaround, it sounds like commenting links is an option… but no one knows if that will ALSO lead to suppression. It ALSO sounds like posting in Facebook groups doesn’t count towards your link limit, so that might be a good workaround too! DMs and private messages don’t count either.

Comment if you’re bummed about this update or have questions. I know I am 🫠🫠🫠🫠

Working in the nonprofit world full time has given me a new perspective, and makes working with local nonprofits even more rewarding.

This project was a special one, because I work for a nonprofit that One Call for All helps support, and then was able to help them build a website that serves local organizations even better!! ❤️

I’m so grateful they gave me this opportunity, and so grateful for the work they do to support local nonprofits like Bainbridge Island Museum of Art

Had to post a few of these STUNNING photos from Sara Therese Photo at Willow & Mabel Garden Co.'s farm. This started as a brand shoot and quickly turned into a self-serving mission to feed the sheep. 🐑

One of the biggest challenges of owning a small business, is having to be aware of ALL of the things you’re supposed to be doing & the policies around them. Bigger companies have entire teams to handle these things, and as a small business owner, that responsibility often falls to you.

One thing I’ve noticed folks seem to miss is email marketing laws. There are lots of restrictions and regulations around sending emails, opting out, and even your subject lines.

Sending emails can be a WONDERFUL way to connect with your audience, but be sure you’re doing so legally. No one wants a lawsuit, especially not a local business doing their best! 🫶🏻🫶🏻
