Did you know, according to the Guinness World Book of Records, the world’s smallest printed book is only .0291”x.0295”?

The Japanese picture book entitled “Flowers of the four seasons” consists of 22 pages mostly flowers and requires a magnifying glass to read!

250 copies were printed by Toppan Printing Co. in Bunkuo, Tokyo, Japan in 2012.

We’ve said it before, but it never hurts to share again: the way you design and submit your print file matters….a lot. Like, a lot a lot.

The perfect print job starts with the perfect print ready file. Don’t forget:

1. Design your file AT the size you want to print it at (Print an 8.5x11? Design the file at 8.5x11, Want that same file printed as a 11x17? Resize/design it at that size.)
2. Image resolution should never be less than 300dpi for print files.
3. CMYK is the color profile for printing, RGB is for web.
4. PDF’s are the best files to send.
5. If you want your design to print all the way to the edge you simply MUST include bleeds in your file.

Some other helpful tips (especially if using Illustrator or InDesign files):

1. Converting fonts to outlines makes it easier for us to work with your file, especially if we don’t have the fonts you used.

2. Remember to embed any and all images before sending (a must in InDesign)!
As always, if you aren’t quite sure where to begin, contact the XPerts at XPress. We’re always happy to help!

What’s the difference between EDDM and Targeted Mailings?

EDDM stands for Every Door Direct Mail, meaning you choose an area you want to target, and your mailing piece is delivered to every door in that selected area. Want to target everyone within a one-mile radios of your business? EDDM is the way to go!

Target mailing means pretty much what it sounds like. You target a certain demographic in a certain area. For example, if you’re a real estate agent, you might target renters within a certain income range. Are you a dog walker looking for new clients? Target dog owners in your area!

Check out the pros and cons of EDDM vs Targeted Mailings in the attached images.

What’s that? You only need to print a black and white document with absolutely no color ink whatsoever? Too bad, the magenta is gone.
Why is the magenta always gone?!

When a print professional suggests a paper weight such as 100 # coated material, have you ever wondered where that 100 # comes from?

A paper’s weight means the weight of a reem of paper in its uncut state! Typically, a ream of paper consists of 500 sheets and that paper is weighed before being cut down to smaller sizes (such as letter or legal).

As we’ve mentioned before, text weight, which is thinner paper, like what you buy at the store, can range in weight from 20 # to 100 #. Cover on the other hand, which is thicker and similar to card stock, can range in weight from 80 #-130 # and beyond!

Paper can also be referred to in points, which measures the thickness of the paper, rather than the weight.

Did you know here at XPress we offer Mail Marketing services? Mailing services have come a long way over the past few centuries, wouldn’t you say?

One of our team members, Kirk, came across this fascinating piece of history about Sisters’ mailing services in the 1800s. Originally posted by the Three Sisters Historical Society in 2020:

“THE MAIL MUST GO THROUGH! John Craig perished in a snowstorm trying to deliver the Christmas mail to Sisters in 1877. And Pony Express rider George Wilson, as a teenager around 1910, left Sisters twice a week at 6am in order to be over the Santiam to Cascadia by 6pm, leaving again at 2:30am to reach Sisters next day by 6pm. For this he was paid $2.25 each way.”

It's amazing to think about the dedication and effort that went into delivering mail back then. Today, XPress makes it easier than ever with our advanced mailing solutions, ensuring your message reaches its destination quickly and efficiently. Let us help you with all your mailing needs!

Hey Seriously Fast Fam! With these hot, hot, HOT🔥summer days, we just wanted to send out a friendly reminder to NOT leave printed materials in hot cars for any length of time. The intense heat actually causes the ink to "melt" (for lack of a better term) and your sheets will stick together and ruin your beautiful printed products! ☀️

Also please stay cool⛄️, drink lots of water💧 and be careful out there. 🌼
