Good thing I’m a stunt man. I was sitting on a bench on the front stoop and the legs got a little too close to the edge and slid off, spilling me into the garden, gravel and dead grass.

I yelled out some jaded 18-letter word—more out of surprize and adrenaline than anything else—then started to laugh. Nothing hurt other than picking dead grass and gravel out of my prosthetic sleeve and phone case.

Just took this picture to prove I still had both of my legs.

Sometimes I can still feel my old leg. I feel the toes curl and the heel press and the ankle twist. I reach out to scratch a small itch, only to find air where something alive and vibrant used to exist. They call it “phantom pain.” There are lots of phantoms in our house…
